Lightwalker, I would try to recommend that you don't stress it too much. Rather than an arcade style "fish em up", this is supposed to be a lot closer to actual fishing.
If I could offer some advice for bigger fish, I would suggest trying out different methods on those first maps. You can get some decent size buffalo and cats on Lone Star as the Major said, you just need to use a different setup to go after them as opposed to bass and panfish.
On Mudwater you can catch some quite big (Over 10 lb) catfish, but you need a float setup for that! I think it was around level 12 that I was able to start catching them. The main thing is you need at least an 8 lb max fish size keepnet. I personally go for stringers over the keepnets since you can hold bigger fish on them.
Try to enjoy fishing where you can. I know it's tempting to want to always be moving on to bigger lakes with bigger fish, but even a little bluegill action can be fun and enjoyable if you make it so!
My keepnet is 12 kg. I prefer that one over stringer cause there was a difference stated which I can't remember (fish safety or whatever).
Yes in this game the fishing experience is much better and realistic, like in striking, pumping, the fish behaviour etc. But in UFS the lure methods were better integrated.
Yeah, I used to think the same thing. The fish safety thing just means that you can release fish from the keepnet. You can't do that from a stringer.
So technically a keepnet can let you release fish strategically, but unless you catch your biggest fish once you are already almost full, it isn't an issue.
Max Drag on Reel
Max Line Weight on Rod
and finally the Line
Examples
Reel A
Has a Max Drag of 8 lbs
Rod A
has a Max Line weight of 8 lbs
Then you will want to use
6 or 7 lbs test line with that rod and reel
As you want Line to be the weakest link so it breaks first and does not damage the Reel or Rod...
How to spot a DUMB Investment
Reel A
Has a Max Drag of 26 Lbs
Reel A can use 30 Lb Braided
its value is 26,000
Reel B
Has a max drag of 22 Lbs
Reel B can use up too 20 Lb Braided
its value is 17,600
^^^^
Reel B is the better more sensible reel....
Because your NOT going to use the extra drag!!! Reel A is capable of because it could SNAP the 20 Lb line, unless you use the 30 LB line in which case your going to Damage the reel you spent too much money on!!!
Ah, this is really good advice! Thank you! I've been wanting to really try and grasp how these drag values were related across the parts, and that makes so much sense that I can't believe I didn't understand right away.
I just checked my reel and line and they fit fine according to your advice. Thanks a lot, it really helped.

Thank you but I quit playing this game some time ago. It really pissed me off lots of times. I'm back to Ultimate Fishing Simulator. I'd rather enjoy a fun game than struggling and toiling for nothing with a more realistic one. Thanks to all for the help so far.
