I'll start by saying that it's possible that your reel is set in the wrong reeling direction, but then again, I'm baffled by losing line.
After casting, try putting your reel speed on the lowest setting of 1, and from time to time just tap the button to reel a bit of the slack line back in.
The only other cause is is what Geauxboy said above.
Or the slack just keeps increasing but the number stays the same?
It's fish, current, etc that causes it. I don't foat fish much but from what i have seen it's an interested fishy, just do what was suggested, reel on speed one or two and reel in the slack. If you want to check, go to the default Mudwater peg, throw it in front of you and see if you get slack, i guarantee that you won't because the current takes it away from you so your line is always taut there. Which is what it really should be, taut lines, tight lines are, dense... But that's another discussion. :D
