I count up to 22 fake bites before a catch and up to 7 fake bites in a single cast in the "non peek time" in Michigan or Alberta (can't remember !) with crankbait ! If this is simulation, then i am Napoleon ! These far too many fake bites are a calamity and lead to unnecessary frustration. If fish don't eat, it simply don't bite ! I fished pike a week during my vacation a few years ago without a single bite.
As for the crank...if you had 22 "Fake bites" those are smaller fish hitting the crank but not taking it because the hook is bigger than what they want...try using a smaller crank during off peak times and you will see a difference.
Come on Ace you know exactly what I mean...you've been around long enough, (so please don't try to start an arguement) we all know how the spawn system works (for the most part) we all know there are no fish in the water till the lure hits...off peak spawns are mostly common size hence said lure will spawn small fish, if using a large hooked lure they hit but don't always take it therefore "fake bite" as the OP put it.
I'm done here...Tight Lines guys!
