Twitching and Lift And Drop, your opinions?
I'm going to leave this pretty wide open as I don't want to lead anyone on responses. What I'm looking for is hopefully older and newer players both respond on if they use the presentations "Twitching" and "Lift And Drop" when fishing and what you think about how they are used.

Just answer honestly is all I ask. No one is going to think you're stupid or anything like that.

To be honest i don't use either, i use a modified technique that doesn't even display as anything on the lure. Seems to work. It's almost like jig bumping across the bottom.

And every species that will bite a lure hits it, so i don't have to change up depending on species.

I use twitch on straight retrieves, although it does not register with any dots anymore. I also twitch light lures as they slowly sink back to the bottom sometimes when I stop and go in deep water. I use lift and drop to bounce along the bottom. I do not take much notice of the lure indicator dots.

i use lift n drop a little but i mainly use a method that has no style like truelight :D what i do is constantly reel in whil using my stick/mouse to jerk the lure (just like i would irl) this method seems to work well for me :D

Yeah i've found lots of ways of slamming fish that show no technique on the meter at all. Each fish is a little bit different but finding rythmns you can actually repeat over and over again, until you find one that is effective that they want to strike works. Then you just repeat it and it will constantly work. Just like real life.

As I said some of these are really weird but drives the fish crazy.

Occasionally I'll use l&d, but I generally don't find a need for it. Like Madkeen, I use a modified retrieve which doesn't register as twitch.

I think I never used twitching... willingly so to say... I sometimes have it, I animate some straight though, but never that crazy quick thing quicktapping both buttons alternatively some displayed in vids.

Lift&Drop is probably what I use the most often. I used to do it both buttons at same time, right now I have worked toward the system I linked that I saw in HawkeyM vid. Lm for a bit, release and right after that Rm to lift.

Now not beeing a fisherman IRL I admit. I would have issues finding some variants I would think of ;-)
And to tell about what I think how they are used... that's how to trigger certain fishes ? or used by what we have heard from other players... like a sort of a pool of players using this oor that ?

EDIT... Btw in french we have it written like that LIFE&DROP... not lift&drop... what's the correct one ?

i mix it in with other methods some times, good starting point for new players, but youll find its best to find your own style.myself i try many things tel i find what the fish likes with what lure im useing.most fish like movement than pause, with crank baits while reeling you can slow pull rod than pause or use the lift and drop on top or under water with them mix it up with a stright reel , many ways to uses them. it go's the same for most lures,but jigging lift and drop still works well some times - you really dont need after a time the red dots to tel you if your doing it right or not .lol they dont show up for me anymore.so twitching and lift and drop still works' best to mix it in with your own style.

*Pokes SlippyFish...* see ?? those translation mistakes I was referring to ??? I mean... it's a freakin copy / paste thing.... and it has been like that since I started to play... Late 0.6
Do you imagine a non fisherman learning to play the game playing in french settings, but totally able to read guides and understand english vids... you can't imagine how long it took me to realize it was the same as Lift&Drop... I thought it was a different retrieve.... yeah yeah I know... polishing details...
LifE = vie in french
LifT = lever in french

Was never able to use twitch (started playing before the big 0.7 something update). I used to do lift and drop a lot, but now I can barely manage to get 2 dots in specific scenarios, so I don't really use it any more.

im a fairly new player but i feel that on lone start texas fishing my preferred is stop and go mixing in lift and drop randomly so im not getting bored from the repetiveness but have been it doesnt really matter aslong you are doing it and getting bites. i guess thats all that really matters

hi SlippyFish I think you're asking the right question to the wrong group of people ... Slippyfish as you probably know real fishermen use all methods to change the way the lure acts through a certain stretch of water to target certain fish species i.e. each method in real life fishing varies the way it moves through the water to interest and trigger a bite from a predator fish . so the question should be aimed at devs, like KW and ask, what he has coded to trigger bites of various species there obviously was a reason to code the bite indicator dot levels to show retrieve accuracy but only KW knows how the virtual fish react to the various retrieves and lure presentation i.e. retrieve type , speed, lure , depth, tackle, so say one species , may have a percentage chance when using different retrieve types for different fish ,, like lift and drop may get 90% where stop and go gets 70% , slow straight may get 95% on bullet spinners were twitching may get 60% with that lure for that fish .....I'm just guessing and that's the point does each lure retrieve have the same chance with every retrieve done correctly and lure type .. I am not sure the player base knows but KW does know what difference it would make .... the worst thing affecting reel retrieved is the rubbery line sort of fly line effect and the bounce it gives the bait close in ... all lure retrieves worked perfect pre alaska intro and michigan nerf pre 0. 7 that was when this game had its most realistic comparison to lure fishing in real life ... I use lift and drop and stop and go and straight slow ,and twitching and but on my style that still catches of a continuous retrieve then just hitting rmb in a rhythmic way on the way in still works a lift and drop style but shows (slow straight /straight ) repeatedly thanks SlippyFish good topic to learn info on and find a few things out it would be good to know it makes a differance ;) tight lines everyone :D

I used to use twitching the most, but a version that I found myself rather than the ones shown in the videos...

Right mouse button and pull rod to pull lure through the water without reeling.
Simultaneously release RMB and click left mouse button while releasing rod tension to reel in the slack in the line while returning rod to original position.
Repeat.

This does collect the line pretty quickly, so it's only really useful when you've got a LONG swim to fish in. There's no point using it in a situation where there's only fish for about 10m of your swim.

More recently I tend to use stop&go and lift&drop the most - usually S&G when it's a longer swim and L&D when it's a shorter one (due to S&G being a quicker retrieve than L&D).

Also, in deeper waters, I used to always wait for the lure to hit the bottom before starting my retrieve but I realised recently that S&G works from the surface all the way down through the water, so now I don't bother waiting, I just start a slow S&G pretty much as soon as my lure hits the water, allowing gradual sinking while retrieving. Saves a lot of time in places like Alberta hunting trout for example.

I also do my L&D differently to the videos incidentally.

Instead of "both mouse buttons on, both mouse buttons off", I go...

RMB to lift lure.
Release RMB.
LMB to collect slack.
Repeat.
