Trophy redear sunfish / white crappie
Are these really in Texas? Been trying to catch them for too long and I cant't figure it out. Anyone catch one or got any tips for how can hook one in Texas?

Don't know about redears. Definitely trophy crappie & bluegill. The trophy bluegill I got was pretty early, first thing in the morning. They're not in the usual spot that people farm for bass though, so you have to walk around the lake looking for them. They like grasshoppers. Focus on the weed lines very close to shore.

Don't remember much details about the trophy crappie i caught. Grasshopper, cricket, waxworms or leeches on a leader anywhere from 24 to 52 inches. I'd try behind the bridge.

Alright, thanks.

Redears are generally deeper than other panfish. Used to be opposite side of the lake from the cabin over near the road (was catching them there as recently as the beta) . 40-45" down around the lilies over there (out in the deeper water a bit). Pet food works for an early bait.

I also had a problem getting these on my "catch every fish" tour.

The Redear was pretty easy once the depth was understood...I ended up dropping to 42";

The crappie was much harder because the bait that I got him on wasn't even listed...I've caught tons of crappie there on all kinds of larvae and worms, even small tubes and spoons, but never small minnows. They also can sit a bit deeper, but 24" was enough;
