Competition Weirdness
So I'm far from a novice playing this game and I know that I've only played in possibly 10 comps total since I've started.

However, I've noticed that I'm "striking out" in some of them when I know for a fact that I should be catching fish. No matter what I do, change lures, change hook size, change spots, change retrieve methods, it feels like the odds are stacked against me. This hasn't happened once, but a few times. Alaska, Michigan and now Alberta.

Here is a picture of the TOTAL amount of fish that I caught in a recent comp in Alberta 45 minutes real time. I spent many MANY hours in Alberta since the buff and this experience sort of baffled me:

I know this may seem anecdotal but I was literally scratching my head. This happned in two other tournaments recently as well. It felt like there was an RNG weight at work. Even in peak times, the trophies just weren't there. Let alone Uniques.

I don't know if anyone else can chime in here with a similar experience or not. This won't discourage me from comps. I'm still going to play them, but this experience here was super frustrating for a person who knows how to catch fish in that lake.

I agree, I played the Breaking Shad at NC last night...caught like 5, normally get like 20 of the little guys in 30 minutes. Similar experience in each comp I've done so far.

RNG? I dont want to complain anymore since the game is good for me now. But today in Forida-Everglades. My start was good. Catching fish in less then 2 minits at a event. And they reboot the server and after I didnt catch anything . Last 20 minits. Like wtf. Dat RNG. Dont know why they can let people win that game(that already finished the competition).

This is my last complain because some people That answer like:

And @dukeof3arl I agree with you(still Rng(random number generator)) but its enoying.

I can deal with RNG from time to time. The thing is, I caught 8 fish in 45 real life minutes in a lake which I know very well.

Which leads me to believe that it's weighted. Some players will hit better than others - for no reason. Which would be disappointing if true. It could be that it just wasn't my night. However, today I went back to Alberta (same time and weather) and killed it.

It's just too weird not to point out.

It's not just you. Something changed after the big update. I have been seeing very similar results in competitions that I normally finish in the top 10. I even finished dead last in one of them. I haven't fished that comp since then and have no plans of going back anytime soon. I got my first glimpse of this during the recent Pike Tournament Final and have been struggling with it since then.

In the Salmon Clash comp last night (2-7-17) I finished 45th. I just could not hook trophies no matter what I tried. I was catching common fish where they are normally trophies. I did end up with 1 uni and 3 trophy sockeye's, but that is less than half of what I normally catch.

I'm hoping some changes to the comps come along soon. I know KW has said they are working on it.

I'm having the same type of experience. It's very strange. Some people will land an almost impossible amount of fish while I fish the same way as I've practiced, but now in the competition I'm getting so little that it's strange. I'd like to know what they changed and how the top guy gets 10 times the amount of fish I get.

I haven't fished any comps since the updates. But I had the problem numerous times b4 the update. I even went to the lakes where I didn't do well in the comps and practiced the same time and weather as the comps to see if I was doing something wrong. I would do well when not in the comp and then do poorly when I participated in the comp. Michigan, Moosehead, Cali and Florida all had these problems for me. It was so frustrating I stopped playing those comps. I did get into the top 50 on the comp leaderboard, but I was limited to only comps where I could catch fish.
It was very frustrating and eventually I lost the desire to compete in them.
I haven't fished a tourney since the first one for similar reasons plus a monstrous lag time on strikes in the tourney.
So I have no idea what the criteria is for comps or tourneys?
I mostly fish now when I am just killing time. The enjoyment of the game has changed drastically for me, but trying to hang in there until they figure out where they are going.

Had the same problem in California. Catch any fish over 5kg. First 32 minutes of that comp I caught exactly 0kg of fish. I changed lures, retrieve methods, I even threw the float out in an attempt to catch something.

Hit 28 minutes to go and all of a sudden the fish were on. Even caught the unique steelhead for the first time ever (which didnt count in the comp btw)

No idea whether RNG or some other effect, but I was certainly filling my bag right before the comp, and right after. Who knows?

I'm going to keep trying and then verifying by using the same lures outside of the comp and test the results.

If there is some sort of a lottery we're all going through, that's not right and probably not at all intended.

It just feels wrong, so it probably is wrong.

I have seen a streamer that broke his RNG. Dont know his name/map/fish. but he was only catching Uniques and trohpys. Dont know what happend with that streamer... Because I never seen him again. xD

Havent played or tried a competition since the latest patches as been busy elsewhere but im looking forward to finally getting back and putting some time into fishing again real soon. I also look forward to how the changes (if any are highly noticable during comps) have affected the most common compeitions I played. As far as rng goes I think for some comps it was the case but for the most, sure rng came into play but then if you have the experience to catch 20 fish for each unexperienced players 1 fish, then its more a case of experience winning than rng. Catch more, more chance. Anyway i will certainly know if the changes are big etc I reckon. Once ive done a few and put some time in asap ill report anything I notice about the subject of this post deffo.

Be nice to be back properly soon as ive missed wetting a line :o)

Comps are pure RNG but in comps fish are harder to catch and you'll always catch more outside of comps so testing that theory - well i catch fish with this lure all the time won't work in comps but it'll still work to a degree.

In comps it's more where you need to cast , what you use and is more strict on how you use it to get more bites , just reeling in won't cut it. but once you master that then RNG takes over , i can win a comp then do it again the same way and place 30th , that's RNG. Is there ways around RNG? Well once you find a way let me know lol.

If that's how it is, that shouldn't be the case at all should it? We should be able to fish like we normally do - but the biggest fish wins. What is the point of making it "harder" to catch fish in a competition? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

So in essence, you are saying that comps are more geared toward "hot spots" and you can't just fish like normal you have to do special "comp retrieves" to do well? I know you play quite a few comps LDH but what you're saying doesn't make any sense from a gameplay standpoint.

That would only serve to frustrate players.

Caught 4 fish in total in the carp comp a few seconds ago. I dunno...absolutely clueless........ Normally a comp where I'm doing pretty well for my relations with a couple of top 3 and some more top 10 results.

i just did the same comp, caught around 10-15 fish and felt at least i was competing this time :) was poorly placed as you need a uni to win..sounds like you had what i had in your comp..mabey it is r n g but its horrible if it is, as you dont feel you are competing or have a chance.
