XP reduction when using "heavy equipment"
As everyone probably know by now there's an XP reduction if you catching a fish when using gear that counts as "to heavy", or as devs said "Now fish XP formula includes tackle params. When catching heavy fish with light tackle you get more and vice versa."

From my experience with this it seems like it's only counted to what your gear can do and not what your gear does. For example, if I lower my drag settings to "very" low on my reel I still get an XP reduction. Even though a lower level reel might be able to generate a higher drag and get no XP reduction.

So my question is: wouldnt it be more fair that XP is calculated from what settings you currently are using, rather than how much your gear can handle?

I think only line and reel count. Also taking current settings into account could cause a lot of gameplay problems, like users getting the fish to one meter using max reel power and then setting power to low, or something.

I dont think that would be a problem. Could be fixed in the way that XP is calculated on the highest setting you have had during the "fight". Example you have had it on setting 5 at the beginning of the fight but lower to setting 2 just at the end - XP is therefor calculated from setting 5, and not 2.

I've explained this before. It doesn't matter if you're using low lb test on low drag with a good rod. You still have an advantage. The person using the 10lb test reel with 8lb test line can use 300ft of line. While you're using a 30lb+ test reel with 1000ft of line on it.

All I know is b4 todays patch I have caught fish within a lb of each other and get 2 red arrows on one and 0 red arrows on the other. So whatever the formula is, not sure it is working right. I have caught 2 blue cats over 45lbs, 1 on 12lb test and 1 on 25lb test with no discernable difference in xp. ??????????

I tested a new reel at the texas location just now (rod 6.0 kg - reel 6.0 kg).
caught a bass weighing about 0.5..kg -> -11 xp.

Then changed reel (rod 6.0 kg - reel 4.5 kg).
caught a bass weighing about 0.6..kg -> +15 xp.

But the stupid thing was when I left, I got +26 xp.

I like it ... makes you use the proper equipment if you want the exp. KW, the devs have been taking a lot of flak since the upgrade. I and the people I fish with like it.. Less unis, this exp equip thing, random fish showing up... its all good. Better since the patch yesterday too.. better graphics. less backlash problems etc. The only moaners are the ones who want everything for free and want a uni on every cast. We knew you would fix most of the issues, and you have. good work! ( Now just work on the comps..lol)

Thats because 11 + 15 =26. It's an accumulation of xp on the fishes you caught. You dont get the xp again though.

Strangely enough I get XP reduction on 1kb Bass, but no xp reduction on 0.2kg panfish, with same rod, reel and line. Not sure if bug or by design.

Im not sure, but my guess to that is that the xp reduction is calculated on percentage. Let's say you catch a panfish that gives you 7 xp, and the xp reduction is 5% that would mean you still closer to 7 xp than to 6 xp.
I dont know if this is how it works, but thats my guess at least.

So that means that my -11 xp is actually +11 xp, but a reduction from lets say 14 xp.
That makes more sence.

Yeah, you cant minus xp. Either you read it wrong or it was written wrong. The reduction you get from catching a fish with heavy gear is only shown with the red triangles, but never says in numbers how much is reducted.
Bummer (major) Feb 8, 2017 @ 5:17pm
I misunderstood the red triangle, I thought that then the XP shown was reduced from your current XP.
My mistake.
