Kaniq Creek enigma
Having spent some time on the creek and having good carches of "common" fish of all varieties, I have a question. One stands in a group of players all with the same equipment, the same lures, the same retrieve techniques, casting in the same area. The other players are pulling in trophy and uniques on every cast and I am getting the odd common and rare trophy fish. Please enighten me on how this works????

the other player has been there a long time and nailed the sweet spots ;) and more than likley isnt casting the exact same spot all the time and is cycling throu 2 or 3 spots
Why so nosy? May 29, 2017 @ 12:58am
Hi,

Trophiess and Uniques are "bound" to peak times, you are not able to catch them outside of it.
Take a look at the ubersheet, I did choose the direction towards the alaska section for you:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wEvjycxSaVLNmVOCIZPALsPvLtxnJSz_LDcPKowAFb4/edit#gid=1727616214
Also there is almost at every species a max amount of Uniques and Trophies which you are able to catch within a certain timeframe. If you figure stuff like that out you can skip around more effective and catch them faster.

Good luck

Thank you for the data. However, there are some individuals who gat a unique cast after cast. One of them actually said he wishes he could catch a common for once... Is there an explanation for this????

Ignore that person- he's either cheating or lying. Nobody catches only unis if they aren't cheating. And like Darren said- players aren't all doing the same thing- guarantee you that. But if you see someone catching a ton of big fish you could just ask what they are using, distances, etc. Most of those types of players are generous with their knowledge.

Thanks Greg. I have been with these individuals and they do just land uniques and trophies. Yes they are very open about their techniques and tackle but they catch and I don't. Just finished 2 sessions at "peak time" in all the locations and have a few small coho's to show for it :(

If that person was just fishing Alaska for uni chinooks 7pm till 9pm then forwarding to the next cloudy day again 7pm till 9pm or peak uni peah hour times for the next day he is more or less going to catch uni fish nearly every cast or he can make it look that way ;) within that timeframe he may have been just spending a few baitcoins to pull your leg and have a laugh with you ... just fishing the peak hour and moving to next uni day peak hour will look like every fish is unique ..

Yeah- what he said lol. I didn't realize it was unis and trophies-- Alaska is a little bit unique in that during the peak chinook hours you catch only trophies and unis. Very rarely will you get a regular chinook during peak hours- it happens but hardly ever. If you're getting only regular chins, just 2-3 an hour you are most likely in the wrong area. So the people you're talking about aren't cheaters- just doing what Eddbanger said. If they were catching 100% unis... cheaters.
So you just have to learn when to be where and what to use. Grab the uber sheet to know the basic times. This is what works for me for uni and trophy chins:
on cloudy days fish down at the bend from 1p-4p. Then 7-9p be up in the island area.
Partly cloudy be down at the bend from 5a-8a, then the islands 8a-10a (I think that's right).
Sunny days are island area 5a-8a and 7p-9p.
It's great fun but the middle/rocky section is also awesome. You can catch tons of fish there, unis and trophies- a lot of people just go for the big chins and miss out on a good time imo.

Thanks!!! WIll give it a go and hopefully good results. The rocky section is great!

Hi Greg! The cloudy day was spot-on!!!!!
Fishnatic May 30, 2017 @ 6:44am
Great- love to hear that.
Down at the bend you can also get uni coho during the chin times. First thing on cloudy days the uni dollys bite up in the rocky area if you don't want to fast forward- check out a video for the spots.
