STASIS

The game is way too similar to Dead Space (SPOILERS)
I though I was playing Dead Space in isometric view with puzzle.

Protagonist wakes up looks for his family, his entire journey starts for his family (Isaac Clarke goes to Ishimura to looks for his wife, his journey starts to look for his wife)
Hybrids running amok killing everything (Necromorphs running amok and killing everything on the ship)
Gloomlake is infected with weird fungus (Ishimura is infected with weird fleshy necromorph stuffs)
Crews of Gloomlake are infected and goes crazy and attack each other (Ishimura crews goes berserk and murder each other or commit mass suicides)
The doctor is crazy and caused all this (Ishimura doctor is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obsessed with necromorph infection to the point where he no longer cares about the entire ship getting infected)
You are later betrayed by the same woman who has been helping you the entire game near the end (This is exactly what happens in Dead Space near the end)

I don't know if the writer decided to watch Alien and binge played Dead Space series and decided to write a similar story, but the resemblance is way too uncanny.

We are big fans of Deadspace -in fact, the makers of Deadspace are fans of Stasis - if you check their twitter they even tweeted this:) We did not intend to copy any story, these plot devices are well known tropes in the sci-fi world and we draw inspiration from the same source materials, 80's horror and scifi films, 50s,60s,70's scifi novels.

I understand that they are well known tropes, but I just couldn't help but see the similarities. Dead Space guys got their inspirations for their story from Alien and The Thing. But some of the stuffs that are in Stasis (like fungus and crews getting infected) were unnecessary to the overall story, since they pretty much weren't essential part of the game or story and it just made the game look similar to Dead Space...

The funny thing here, is that you fail to point out the fact the Dead Space itself was just a rip off of other material. I could go on and list how Dead Space was just a knock off of System Shock 2 in the same manner you did for this game.

Polito/Shodan, anyone?

Did these similarities stop me from enjoying Dead Space? Nope. Did I ever once go and tell the team behind Dead Space (part of the evil EA machine) that they copied what I consider to be one of the best horror games ever made? Nope.

And because I am being a nit-picking jerk at this point, you forgot to mention Event Horizon.

I knew it was a matter of time until a rabid fanboy to show up and confront me.
Yes, I've already mentioned how Dead Space borrowed sources from other past movies. It's in my post. But since we aren't talking about how Dead Space ripped off of other sources, I say this game ripped off of Dead Space pretty good.
Also, it's a good thing you brought up System Shock. This game also ripped off of System Shock as well. The only originality with writing in this game is using shock value at the end with all those bodies to give us a similar look as Nazi gas chambers. Except it's a gas chamber in space.

Hybrids are not Necromorphs.
Usurper Sep 5, 2015 @ 3:38pm
The Weirdsd part of the Game is for me that the Char looks the whole Time like he's naked, that suit idea doesnt really fit with the Engine i think.
(Bought the Game on GoG btw)
For the first 30 Minutes i thought he may get some other Cloth, but well..didnt happened =)

Where it has the Inspirations from is Obvious i think, but not bad.
Everything is inspired by something, and its ok done.
But the Game feels a bit unpolished for me,like a Rough Gem i would say.

Yeah but Hybrids/Nercomorphs/Aliens fill the same role in all stories. Their details might be vastly different but their use in the narrative isn't.

Personally i like the hybirds and their concept. Ever since i read about scienists doing this to chickens to retro engineer them to give them teeth again using a simalar process (which was inspired in turn by jarassic park). It is quite interesting and a very real world science which i find all more compelling.

As too the story and its simalarity to Dead Space and others. I feel its got way more in common with the alien franchise. I was a bit dissappointed on where the story leads and i do think it suffered for it. Especailly the lost of pacing when we leave Samantha behind it sort of cool's off. The game is a good game. Its worthy of the praise it's received. Please take it as contructive critisim. You did well guys.

Below is my list of Alien easter eggs and simalarities I've seen. I may as well post it here as its about this topic really. Some of these might be reaching a bit. I actually really enjoyed discovering some of these as they totally went over my head the frist time out (some are very clever)

Malan - Displays character traits very simlar to Ash/Mason from Alien/4. Putting the crew at risk for understanding of the hybrid/alien in a scienific fashion.

Cayne - lives to an old age sets up a huge multi adivision company - Peter Weyland.

Anderson - Sercuity guard who is pretty stupid. - Alien 3. Simalar to 85

Betrayal from a main character for the selling the hybirds for weapons research. - ref Aliens mainly but also Alien 1/3/4 as well

Ta'ah infiltrates Cayne Corp for alterntive motives to take down the companies research- Aliens 4. Annalee Call becomes a crew member of the betty for the same motives.

Smuggling weapon/research in a body - Aliens, Burke was going to use Ripley and Newt to hide the alien material

Samantha needs her own game ;)
The Brotherhood  [developer] Sep 5, 2015 @ 10:55pm
If you watch the first cut scene he has a skin tight suit on - in retrospect we could have made him naked, that would have been a great idea.
centuryon Sep 5, 2015 @ 11:28pm
Yeah his clothing and suit is pretty obvious in the cutscenes, but not so much in regular in-game play.

But yeah, I was kind of surprised we didn't come across any obviously named monstrosities that actively "hunted" you. Samantha IIRC only had a scene in the Iron Lung room and then that was it form what I remember. Although that was odd because it seemed there was someone in the Lung but then there was another monster outside too. Was kinda confusing.

Surely the plasma cutter/torch was an homage?

Well, no, Necromorphs were dead biomatter reanimated by some weird alien crap.

If we're going to list all the forms of media where 'things what kill humans get loose on a space ship and kill all the crew' we're going to be here a while anyway :P.

If you want to know the truth, I thought the game was a total ripoff of space mutiny (because the spaceship is a giant basement).

Anyway I liked it.
