Okay, if you have some Steam and Non-Steam versions of SONAR, you may have some issues with the VST paths.
Here's some things to check:
1) Make sure in SONAR Steam Edition - Preferences > VST Setings, that [steamlibrary]\common\cakewalk\shared utilities\internal
and
[steamlibrary]\common\cakewalk\x64\shared utilities\internal
is in the VST list.
This doesn't ususally have to be added, but the existing registry key for x3 is likely overriding and pointing SONAR Steam Edition outside of the Steam directory and info Program Files.
You won't be able to just drag drop the files from the Style Dial Folder, they aren't intended to work that way.
2) Re: The sound center packs. Steam will install the programs and multisamples to :
[steamlibrary]\common\cakewalk\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sound Center\programs
and
[steamlibrary]\common\cakewalk\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules
Depending on if you had Sound Center installed previously, and which scan path you are using. Sonar, and in conjunction Sound Center, will be looking in the wrong locations.
Under Utilities > Plug-in Manager in SONAR, check what the plugin path is for Sound Center.
If it's pointing outside of Steam managed directories, you will need to copy the Programs and Multisamples out to the Windows %ProgramData%\Cakewalk\Sound Center\Programs folder and the Vstplugin's Modules folder.
I've also checked out the Sound Centre issue, and can happily report that ive now got those Video Game sounds available in CSC, by copying the files as suggested. Some that Ive auditioned are going to be fun for me to abuse in my weird techno music.
So far i think im now doing fine apart from the MixStrip/Style Dial Fx which i can't get working. one knob fx arent visible on the MixStrip, the right mouse options are all greyed out. I can see the names of the one knob fx in the Browser sample content folders. So i know theyre there, just why aren't they appearing ?
Yet to reinstall Rapture Session, but i did like the sound of some of the presets when i have had that installed before. However will there be any issues with running Rapture 1.2 as well ? and if i create something in Rapture 1.2, will i be able to play that from Rapture Session if i wanted to or is it completey different internal architecture? <<this ones not important, just curios
Just for info, i did try emailing cakewalk tech support from the cakewalk website a couple of times, but haven't had any emails to say any of my email had been received with a case number.
but the mixstrip/style dial fx would be nice to have working, thanks again :) <<happier user
Still no joy on the Style Dial FX, and the greyed out options to insert them.
Re: Rapture
Editing and Resaving of older programs is a feature of Rapture Pro, Session just lets you load them and manipulate the exposed controls.
There is a special going on right now for Rapture Pro upgrades.
Re: Style Dials
One thing I can think of doing is going to Edit > Preferences > Vst Settings, and click the [Reset] button and allow SONAR to rescan. It's possible they were scanned but are failed.
The actual VST's for the style dials are all located in the Shared Utilities folders. The resource files for the UI's are the only thing you see in the Browser.
I've never actually seen the StyleDials greyed out in MixStrip menu. They should just not show up if they are unavailable. Would it be possible to post some screenshots? It may point me into a direction with more ideas.
Some people use www.Imgur.com for their image hosting needs. This requires a username and login. This is a quite popular option.
Some other ones that don't require logins:

http://tinypic.com/
Just post a direct link to the image in the forum.

http://s32.postimg.org/on5vb5j9x/VSTPaths2.png <<had to scroll down to get 1 extra line of vst paths.
This is normal actually. I was mistaken in the other post. It's a minimized version of our Quad Curve EQ.
You still have the Sonitus EQ you used in X3. It will be under the DirectX audio FX. You can drop it right into the track FX bin.
Mixstrip =/= StyleDial modules.
This is normal as well, this would just list presets, which are loaded through the load/save option at the top of the mixstrip.
https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=MixStrip.03.html
The documentation does list some presets for the full mixstrip, but I actually don't see any in our content system. I'll need to inquire with Doc/Dev tomorrow, but your current configuration looks nominal. If we are missing presets, I'll get them out in the next maintenance release coming up.
In the Registry Editor: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758067(v=ws.10).aspx
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software
You'll see a key called "ContentDir"
This path should be set to: [steamlibrary]\common\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Content
If this is incorrect and not pointing to the right spot, the style dials won't show up at all, even if the plug-ins are scanned.
This is something that could be set incorrectly since you ha the prior versions of SONAR non-steam.
Please remove this link/image! It shows your individual CD Key.
hklm\software\cms = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Content\
wow6432node = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Content
Please remove the last link in post #7, that lists your individual serial number, you don't want people stealing this!
There's a few others paths to look at under in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\
Under 'Cakewalk VST' folder make sure the 'VstScanPath' key is:
[Steamlibrary]\common\cakewalk\Shared Utilities\VstScan.exe
Under 'Cakewalk VSt x64' folder make sure the 'VstScanPath' key is:
[Steamlibrary]\common\cakewalk\x64\Shared Utilities\VstScan.exe
You'll also see a folder here called 'STEAM", with SONAR closed, delete this registry folder. Then launch SONAR, while holding down the [Ctrl] and [Shift] keys. SONAR should prompt you to re-personalize settings. Allow this to complete. Then test again.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, I recommend contacting our tech support department directly and scheduling a call back from one of our representatives. I can always hop on the call as well to assist, but we may want to remote in: www.cakewalk.com/support/contact
The only way I was able to replicate the issue at hand was trashing the 'ContentDir' directories, from my suggestion in my previous post.
Nope the full paths are
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Cakewalk VST
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Cakewalk VST X64
Note, its 'Current User' not 'Local Machine.'
ive only gone an edited some settings in the HKLM section, and deleted a couple of STEAM folders from registry. (1 of which has been re-created by running sonar again)..oops
ok so now have done the edits properly as requested in the current user section, but still no change in the mixstrip showing any one knob thingys.
Okay, this is after SONAR re-personalized?
I definitely recommend setting up a callback time with support so we can dive into this deeper. I'm actually out of ideas right now on what would be causing this.
I've already tried emailing cakewalk support days ago from the website, but haven't had any emails to say that my support request was received. was using Microsoft Edge browser logged into cakewalk with my cakewalk account. Dont know if there's any problems using Edge or not with the website.
