Also, I retried the quest 2 on my old PC (don't want to install Oculus on new PC...) and this also ran at 34fps, but was very playable. The resolution was down and coming from the G2 like watching a SD TV channel, but very playable. The lower resolution hides allot of the rendering issues. Thought I would just stick with the Q2, but then..
Went back to the G2 and new PC tried different USB Display port ports etc, no change.
I thought if 32fps was ok, I decided to set the refresh rate to 60Hz (in WMR) never tried this for obvious reasons, and guess what.... Smooth!??!?! how can this be? I can actually also increase some of the settings MSA... Must be a bottle neck somewhere, I have seen the GPU frame time below 11ms but only 60 fps, there must be something else going on.
Something strange going on....
Marty, try 60Hz see how this goes for you.
Thus: aiming for 90fps and getting 80fps (from the PC) will actually deliver 45fps to the headset.
But: aiming for 60fps will get you 60fps with frames to spare (if the PC is sending 80).
However: if the PC sends 50fps, it will end up delivering 30fps when you set the target FPS at 60.
That's a setting you can toggle in SteamVR settings.
Yes, it seems to be the re-projection that causes issues for me. Even if I disable it still comes up, but WMS Steam in beat lkg1_release sees to disable it. After many days, I now have two configurations that works ok for me:
Also tried - makes NO difference: Disable SteamVR home, Disable Windows button (see HP FAQ), Disable 3 additional screens
Config 1)
- Nvidia control panel : 3D settings > Adjust Image setting > Quality or Balanced
- Mixed Reality Portal: 60HZ
- SteamVR (beta) Set ti 2724x2660 (can set to 3164x3096, but looks the same for me) - - -- Make sure under developer OpenXR is set to SteamVR not WMR (OpenXR)
- WMR Steam (lkg_release)
- PC2: MSAA Medium or high (rest High , shadows: low)
This runs smooth, but the sun/clouds/white billboard have a slight flicker, so adjusted the brightness down. Also seem to get slight discomfort, not sure if it is the 60HZ, flicker or "realism"
Config 2)
- Nvidia control panel : 3D settings > Adjust Image setting > Performance (this helps with the shimmering as well, but detail is down)
- Mixed Reality Portal: 90HZ
- SteamVR (beta) Set ti 2724x2660 (can set to 3164x3096, but looks the same for me) - - - Make sure under developer OpenXR is set to SteamVR not WMR
- WMR Steam (lkg_release)
- PC2: MSAA Low (rest High , shadows: low)
This runs smooth, but the road detail is a bit washed out.
Both the above allow minimal and hopefully no re projection.
Update: I have been mostly using Config 1 (60Hz) - PC3, Dirt 2.0, AC, DCS, all now playable in high or Ulta with some MSAA. PC3 actually now looks amazing and very playable. Tired same setting in 90 HZ and it becomes a stuttering mess (~55fps) which is strange as in 60Hz I get 60 FPS. Still some shimmering and flashing, but getting use to this now - hopefully they will fix ;-)
I will stop there now, hopefully some software updates come out soon (Alyx optimisation on a racing Sim)...
I'm just wondering if this game is listening to WMR settings rather than SteamVR.
I think you can do that using the "extra overlays" on the bottom of the in - headset menu page (next to "space cal", "Gateway", "revive", "OVR" etc.).
There's actually a toggle button in there about whether repro works through WMR or SteamVR.
Hi, yes - no impact for me. lkg_release at 60 Hz seems to be best.
I have no issues running at 90fps with my G1 Reverb on a 2070 Super with a 3700x Ryzen 7. I use medium to low settings and it runs and looks good. 100% SS. I am not sure if a 3080 would be worth $1500 just to play on max settings lol. I am sure it looks a little better, but honestly it looks superb atm for me.
My other VR games play great as well including iRacing, and Half-life Alyx. I can actually run Alyx at max settings.
Under 100% you are undersampling.
I have 3090, 10900k & 64gb Ram. That's the highest consumer setup possible right now. On some games I drop the SS slider down to 80%, but most of the time it can handle 100% easily. But that isn't the case with most people.
