Problem with player engine sound
The engine sound for my car has mostly stopped, I haven't changed any sound setting so this is really frustrating. When I say mostly, there's some sound there but not the actual engine noise. It's making this unplayable. Please help if you can.

ok first under audio settings make sure that nothing is turned down by accident in there you are able to turn down engine noise from both your car and oponenents cars along with trck noise interior noise track noise ETC. if they are all up and not muted then what could fix this is deleting the project cars 2 folder under my documents but be warned this will set everything back to default so any custom settings you have for wheels controllers and tune settings will be lost. what you could do rather than delete it is cut the folder and paste it somewhere else, test the game to see if that resolved the issue if not you can just put it back without loosing anything and try find another solution.

He is right though, since I purchased the season pass dlc last week, I find the Porsche dlc sounds weird, and the down shift sounds are very low, it is so bad as the OP stated, that it makes using some cars unplayable or not fun to use, the issue is with the down shift volume.
There are complaints on other sim racing blog sites, that alot of the car sounds needs fixing.

To the OP, when testing or fixing work rounds for project cars 2, never delete the project cars 2 folder located in document, it is best to rename the folder to something like 1project cars 2 or project cars 2a

ok ill bear in mind renaming is best, i just know i had some issues with default settings and ended up having to go back to default and deleting sorted it for me without having to un install and re install the game. but yeah thats why i said mibi just move (rename) the folder to test to see if that will actualy fix it if all else fails. i wasnt aware there was complaints about the dlc other than the porche sounds rubbish compared to other games like assetto corsa but this didnt sound related to that and more in general cars have sound issues.

So it turns out that it's only happening if I'm playing in VR mode, all is correct if I start in normal mode but I never play that way. The audio levels are definitely all at default. I tried reinstalling but no change.

I'll try what you said about the folder ASAP, thanks.

before deleting the file try this. I found this online the issue sounded the same as yours,

If you can hear the menu and start sounds but not the in-game sounds - it's possible that the headset thinks it's not attached (to your head) and is pausing the audio - there is a small LED and sensor inside the Oculus Rift goggles (between the eye lense up at the top). Try covering that with your finger (or something) and see if the sound comes back. It seems to use this to detect whether the headset is worn (I'm not sure if it's the reflection from your forehead it uses or the lack of ambient light coming in from outside).

So as much as I don't want to admit it, dumb assery is to blame here. The headphone plug under the cover on the Vive itself was not quite properly seated. It caused some weird sound issues but all good now.

glad you got it sorted.
