Whats a realistic game ? ;) Looking for game or sim ?

There is a demo for PC2. Try it.
Driving/FFB is very realistic (as the devs say). Imo most of the street and classic cars are not good at all, way to soft. But racecars and especially RX are fun to drive

Overall if you can live some weird design decisions, no pace car, funny track limits and sometimes really bad AI you will get a good experience.
And it seems Game is EOL, so ...

If you want a realistic and really bone-dry simulation - try Rfactor2 Demo. It looks somewhat dated but is a better allaround "racing" sim with a fantastic AI. Mostly ;) and you need a decent machine. Oh and it is still in heavy Development.

Btw - Next Simulation coming is Assetto Corsa Competizione, its in Early Access now.

I'm heading more towards simulation

Get it! It has its moments and some aspects it simulates well, others not so well, but it is second to none in making you believe you are actually racing in a real car/track and not just playing a game...

There are many options for realism, Pcars2 is one of them. It is a complete package, a finished product, with its advantages and its flaws (which I assume won't be solved). If you want to race with many types of (interesting) cars from different eras, in various types of races (road, rallycross, ice, kart) and with dynamic weather, day and night cycle and an excellent immersion (especially in VR), and without having to deal with mods, it's the best option.

The major issue for me is that the automatic clutch can't be deactivated : you can manually clutch, but if you do something wrong, or forgot to use it, the game automatically does it for you ; that's annoying, especially considering all the classic content included.

One aspect of the game can be annoying : the FFB can be manually tweaked (with 5 or 6 parameters) to get something that suits your taste, and by default it is not really good (depends on you wheel I assume). So you'll have some work to do to get a good experience.

Regarding above FFB comment..... personally I run default raw 100 50 50 50 most of the time with csw v2.5 and its great for me. If I do make changes it's to amend volume and tone occasionally only.

if you have a ps4 get gt sports its a great game and always getting updates and new free stuff all the time and will be alive for years to come. gt sports is easly as realistic as this and has great SOUND. online has great events on all the time unlike in pc2 were its all U licence with rammers. last night most races i was in the back markers were taking people out and did they get kicked out NO. if you dont have vr get gt sports but if you dont have a ps4 then pc2 is the next best thing as long as you stay out of the U lobbys (easier said than done)

If we simplify the term "reaslistic" to mean basically "Do real world driving techniques and driver inputs work in the game" then I would say you have a decent amount of sims to choose from. (RF2, iRacing, AMS, Project Cars 2, R3E, Assetto)

The nuances of what each game does well beyond that is what seems to divide the community. So my answer is that Pcars 2 is pretty realistic, although I had to tweak a few settings before it felt realistic to me. If you can specify what is most important in a racing game for you, I'm sure you'll get better feedback on specific things. Probably not the answer you wanted, but anyone who has played a few sims would likely agree with me.

The demo is not on the latest version, yes; but it does provides enough of an experience that people can make an informed decision about purchasing the full title.

"Realistic to me" is always there when talking about simulators. No one has the same feeling about it and no one knows how the person saying it can really gauge "realistic".

Indeed, each person has his own way to feel a sim, so each one has his own taste ; some prefer one sim and other other ones. But features is something concrete and is not about feeling. Pcars2 has a weather system, which other "modern" sims do not have (only rfactor2 and Assetto Corsa Comperizione). Pcars2 do not have proper clutch simulation, as when you don't clutch right it uses an automatic clutch to compensate (it is the main issue I have with Pcars2). The best sims about that imo are Raceroom (where you can basically break your gearbox and have to use the clutch right) and rfactor2 (I think, but don't know whether you can damage your gearbox as in raceroom). Seriously, if you're not a stupid fanboy, all the options available are realistic and great, but each one has its limits. Just find the one that suits your needs. Pcars2 is an amazing package, that's its strength. And on sale, I think it's a must have.

Except this isn't true. What you are debating is what feels the best. Math isn't subjective. A simulator is either mathematically, and therefore factually, more or less accurate than another. But that doesn't mean it feels better to play.

Feeling is a major part of a simulator. In theory you can race on a perfect simulator with a non FFB (as we used to do in the early days of pc simracing) but the feeling isn't realistic, because you can't feel anything in the wheel. A less accurate, mathematically speaking, simulator with a good FFB (a simulated racing wheel) feels immediately more natural, so more realistic. So, at the end of the day, the most authentic simulator is the one you feel confortable with, accepting its flaws (all have). You may feel more confortable without FFB though.

On a scale between Need for speed -> Forza - > Assetto

Pcars 2 is probably between forza and assetto, but closer to assetto.

The cars feel nice and light and throwing them around a track is satisfying. I got the dexlue edition for cheap during the current sale and its been great so far.
