Worst case is it doesn't run and you ask for a refund.
Don't worry too much about it. I'm fairly certain most publishers make the system requirements for games way higher than they need to be as an incentive for people to pay money for computers they don't need.
OR it could be that the system requirements are intended for people running at 4K.
Like Mass Effect Andromeda. Recommended 16GB of RAM. That alone will have convinced many people to go out and buy another stick of RAM. I played the game on MAX settings at 1440p and RAM usage never went over 5GB.
They straight lied to us.
It also depends on you. Are you okay dropping the resolution and playing at 30fps? In which case you'll likely find you can drop the settings more than some.
Not to mention it is a racing game. Universally racers tend to be forgiving (unless broken). Plus in my own opinion are better to play at low settings than most games. I mean do you need ultra high quality shadows in a racing game? REALLY? Or hyper view distance?
I don't know about you but when I'm playing a racing game I'm staring at the track ahead concentrating. Honestly they could replace the crowd in these games with 6 foot giant penises and I wouldn't even notice.
Well then you will be fine.
Some games shouldn't even use 4 gigs like shooters and sports games. How well do you need a gun or jersey to look? I'm okay with Playstation or SNES graphics but all these new gamers think they can pull Unreal graphics out of their a$$. Shame. Miss the good old days of gaming.
But if Slightly Mad Studios wants to make their game pretty more for them. As long as it doesn't hurt performance of the game. Hopefully they fix that studder issue with the AMD cards this time around. Even though I have 2 RX480s with crossfire bridge still have issues once in a blue moon.
I wouldn't be talking out your ass there is a lot of budget gamer here like me who know PCs we know we don't have the most powerful PC but do we care NO we don't need the latest and greatest unlike 1999 to 2001 computers went out of date fast back then. But this is 2017 and my computer runs any title with medium to high settings
Also amd graphics cards are crap and two thread ripper might be powerful but i9 are still way more advanced and nivida can beat down amd cards like no tomorrow
