It's AI broken on this game?
Hello!

I'm playing PC2 only in carrer mode, with Formula C and Formula Renault, I'm not a good driver but I'm surprised i need to set AI strenght to 110 to match my laps times (~1:32 at Portugal FR3.5)

By other hand, no matters what setup I load or set (wing to maximum downforce) than AI has always a lot more grip than me, but a less top speed, so they win me on turns and i win they on straighs, it's very frustrating not to have wheel to wheel combats, it's like we are racing on different cars

I installed the game (from steam) from day one, i create a career championship with Formula C and i got a lot of problems so i left the game until this days, i back to play (after update to 1.4) so i guess maybe the game is not working right due the updates or what

Thanks

The AI isn't "broken", but the AI does use a simplified version of physics as compared to the player. With that, there are areas in which the AI may be able to do things the player cannot.

The way the AI strength works is that above 100, the AI will "cheat" in some areas. 100 and under, the AI will be limited to the same limits as the player.

Also, in Career, the AI will sometimes run lower than the strength set. It's design this way to emulate amatuer verses pro drivers. For instance, those at the lower tiers of racing don't have the skill of the pro drivers. So if you set the skill to say 80, in a lower tier Career event, the actual AI strength used may be 70 to simulate local/non-national racing.

You can test this by running a Quick Race using the same AI Strength on the same track. If the Quick Race AI is running faster times than the Career AI for the same race duration, it's due to Career design to simulate lower tier racing.

totally
It's not broken, but incomplete.

AI is AI. Name me one game that has perfect AI and I will call you a liar. That being said the AI in PC2 is pretty good. You do have to fiddle around with the difficulty sliders to get it to your liking but if you put in the effort you can get some good/great racing against the AI.

Again it isn't perfect so some combinations of tracks and cars work better then others. You do need to have some racecraft knowledge to have a good race though (something a lot of players don't really have). If you drive overly agressive you will have a bad time (be it against the AI or against real players).

People who complain loudly about AI (or other players) are often just plain bad drivers who think other cars on the track should always yield to them.

Sega rally revo has perfect Ai.

Thanks for that information I did not know it, But as I said, with maximum downforce i get like 10-15 kph more than IA, no matter the track , I started a new career thinking was my fault (maybe corrupt setup or something) and i get the same, just i load the default stable setup , i put downforce to max and I overstake they on straight like i have much more power than they

Try the exact same race setup using "Quick Race". If the AI is faster in Quick Race, then it's what I mentioned about the AI being set to emulate lesser crafted pilots within the Career mode.

Best AI for single-player wheel to wheel racing for me thus far is RFactor 2. I've had great single player AI race battles in PC2, AC, and RF2, it's just that in RF2 you have those experiences more often and more consistently I guess you could say. WIth PC2 and AC, there are certain car and track combos that with the right AI and Agression settings, I can generate a good competitive close race, but those variables aren't consistent across tracks or cars.

This is one problem I am having running the career mode on PC2. I have to adjust AI skill level depending on track to create a competitive race. I may have it on one AI setting and can walk all over the AI at one track, but then change to another track that I know pretty well at the same setting and now the AI is dusting me by huge margins.

What does that even mean, like they felt unfinished?
AI is pretty good so far, bugs aside, anyway compared to games like Forza and GT.
And unlike those games there's no rubberbanding so I like it.

It has some cons though, like limited top speed with an F1 or LMP1 in straight lines due to bad Kers management. And because of the wrong use of Kers, racing AI on the oval tracks remains easy, even with difficulty set to max.

I also feel like, when you're 1 lap ahead of an AI, or when you're pulling a better time than AI in the qualifying, it just won't let you pass and will stay on the right side of the lane, you have to manoeuver yourself.

Other than that, it's pretty solid.

PS: I also would like to know if penalty applies to them as well :)

German Gt3 Championship....starts dry then snows.

Originally started game on dry tyres. had a decent lead then snow came... pits suggested ...after half a lap , car was like it was on wet grass.....pulled into pits.....Ai didnt?? ...As it was only a 12 min race and Ai lapping 2min 17 i couldnt catch up with a few mins to go.

Start 2, wets on the dry track...5 OR 6 laps i think , decent lead...snow starts.. I am about 13 seconds slower, AI much slower.

Race finishes, i win by 46 seconds...last car was (2min 23 seconds behind)
i didnt see the last lap,,,but i must have been 20 to 25 seconds a lap faster than 2nd place.

Ai on 90%

ps....SmS...IF YOU SPENT LESS TIME ON PUDDLES....previous..Lmp3 championship half the races had flooded tracks.....didnt fint it fun

That's one area I' am very dissapointed with the game. The AI's driving patterns and lines break immersion offline. You can visibly see the difference in the physics between your vehicle and theirs.

I think you're being a bit excessive

I agree that there still needs to be some balancing to the AI on many layouts. It's a moving target because as they certain address AI behaviors, it has an indirect effect on how they drive so they then need to tweak the AI on specific tracks. So it's a yin and yang thing...

However, I've played a lot of PC2 from during the development period to now. The RX AI (outside of Career) is probably the most balanced. I'm surprised to see that racing discipline used as the example of where AI complaints are... To be honest, I see far less complaints about RX AI than the other racing disciplines in AI which reflects my experience.
