The problem is that dreaded ffb clipping I keep reading about. Yet I don't quite get how I would notice it. Does the wheel just start doing nonsense ? What has to happen in game for the clipping to happen ?
I will check out the thread you posted. Maybe all the anwers I need can be found there.
Thanks. :)
FWIW, SMS did some blind testing during PC1 with the WMD community around FFB. The majority preferred some light clipping of the FFB. In short, clipping is not as bad as some people make it out to be so don't be too concerned with it.
You can see the FFB meter in the Telemetry screen when driving.
So it's not like the clipping can damage the wheel on the long run ?
I read a comparison with audio speakers that are pushed too hard and start distorting. That would damage the speakers for sure over prolonged use.
I guess that comparison had to be explained a little better if clipping cannot damage my wheel.
PC2 (or any sim) can't send any force to your wheel that the wheel drivers won't allow. With the speaker analogy, I can overpower speakers as there is nothing between my amp and the speaker. With PC gaming hardware, there is a layer between the sim and the hardware which is the device driver from the manufacturer. That drive driver limits what can be sent to the hardware.
This is the clipping. (Making up some numbers just for illustration purposes), if you try to send say a force of 1000, the device driver will cut what it can't send and send maximum strength that it supports which is maybe 500.
So I can just go ahead messing around. There is always a default if things get out of hand.
Thanks very much. :)
