It's more the getting used to the cars for me my wheel is set the same for every game, I don't bother about laptimes I just know while I am drving if I have improved on previous runs.

depends on the car really, I tend to find supercars the worst overall, but things like F1 and regular road cars are fantastic

I always used to play witha dualshock controller for years mate but then finally brought a wheel a few years back and in my casual gaming took me weeks to get good times.
It took hours and hours but im now better for it.

I find with the triple screens you tend to take the wrong apex as apposed to a single screen but im getting used to that as well.

I've had a couple of FFB wheels over the years and I remember moving from my old 180 rotation wheel to 900 with a H shifter and clutch taking about 4 hours of play time before not feeling like I was completely crap. About a week in total before I was matching my old ability.

Going from a pad to a wheel...was too long ago to judge accurately.

Yea I just got to put the practise in, that one lap I finished was so enjoyable, wish I had bought a wheel alot sooner

It's just nice not having to turn using a squeaky old xbox analogue

Very little time to beat my skill with a controller, but I still haven't matched the skill of the top guys. I'm an iRacer and when I first started I was pretty hopeless, then I improved to the 'barrier' which is 3 seconds off the pace of the race leaders, now a 1.75 years later I'm only about 1.5 seconds off the pace of the leaders.

Hammering out the final seconds takes a lot of practice and it helps if you have some coaching or read some books on real race driving technique, learn about the physics operating on the car - especially weight transfer, and gain experience in racing in traffic safely.

Some guys do it naturally, others have been working on it for a decade or more.

when i first started using mine back on forza 3, it took about a month till i could run the same lap times. another month went by i was crushing my controller lap times. it does take some time

once you get good with a wheel you can not go back to a game pad lol

I just made the switch, picked up a Driving Force Pro on eBay for $50, couldn't be happier especially with the Rift. It takes a long time to get used to but the Race Engineer really helped with tweaking my car so it's much more enjoyable. Try that out and see if it helps.

I played 100 hours of trucking sims before i got into assetto. That was one hell of a transition.

I'm trying to remember the first wheel I ever had... holy crap, that had to have been 20+ years ago. I don't remember that it took too terribly long to get used to it though. Back then, gamepads were not as common for PCs, so I went from an old Gravis analog joystick to a wheel/pedal setup. I do remember being instantly hooked and I've not been without a wheel since then!

looks like im alot of years behind people in terms of experience lol

specific corners are causing me more trouble than types of cars. at the minute im tyrying to turn through the first corner at Knockhill, it has the steep downhill turn to the right. i just have no grip going around it

That's a fun series of turns. You really want to hit the apex and then you should be lined up for the left at the bottom. You basically need to have done the turn before you hit the brow of the hill.
