Length of the ame
Thea looks great, but I have one question (sorry if it has been answered elsewhere) : how long does a "run" (assuming it works like a rogue-like) lasts ? (and how big are the maps ?)

I was about to purchase the game, then I saw that people wrote reviews after only a few ours of game, so I wonder if it's more like a 4X (with douzens of hours needed to complete a game) or like a tactical map you will explore and complete within an hour. It's probably between the two, I guess, but what matters for me is the feeling of making my people grow and evolve. A bit like in King of Dragon Pass, yes, but I' also asking because that's why I like Civilization 5 but not Age of Wonders 3.

It's pretty long and the maps are pretty big. I've done 2 play-throughs which took about 7 hours, I haven't even opened half (maybe even third) of the map there or completed the mission, on a small map on normal difficulty. That being said, I'm very bad at games like this, so it could be faster for you.

You can choose the map size, so it's really up to you how long of a game you want. Obviously a small map would be much quicker than a large map. So your game length is customizable, similar to most 4X games. The roguelike aspect encourages multiple playthroughs as well, as most of the characters you can play as are unlocked by leveling up others. Not sure if anything else is carried over yet, as I am currently unable to play due to the intro movies not cooperating with my computer.

It's a tough question as much depends on playstyle, level of familiarity and sometimes just luck. It is a rouge-like and survival experience, thus at times, your playthroughs may be rather short. On the other hand, an average playthrough should take around 6-8h - but this will not complete all of the content, as our game relies a lot on replayability.

Oh and yes, you can choose different map sizes, which will also increase your potential play time.

I'm still on my first run, and I'm almost 9h in. That said, I'm slow, and I can barely run the game, which makes it very laggy.

I'm playing on the default map size... normal, I think? If I remember correctly, there's small, normal, large and extreme. Maybe huge between large and extreme?

Normal isn't exactly very big, but it's not like Civ where you keep expanding. You only have one village (though you can send expeditions to make camps to gather resources outside your village).

At the point I'm at, I only have 13 villagers, and 3 children (children do nothing, but grow into usable/playable adults after a certain period of time; so basically, I have 16 "potential" villagers).

I -could- make two scouting parties and leave a few people at home, but that would be stretching myself pretty thing.

Point being, even when the map's not huge, it's plenty big, given how the game plays (I'd say I still have about 60-70% of it unexplored).

Depending on your settings and objectives, the game can be as short as a few minutes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sogpaFk1CLM (self plug 11:30)
or as long as you want (see the dude who's 9 hours into 1 game).
you will eventually run into issues actually winning fights, as the world difficulty scales by turn.
If you're new-Regular(to giants end), expect 4 hours or longer. A more experienced player may have it done in around 1-2 hours, any difficulty.
there's another player i'm aware of that has a YT video of max difficulty in under 1:30:00, but he could of gone Much faster.
