Over-equipping stationary villagers.
Every villager has its own cargo capacity based on strength, which limits their ability to equip gear and carry resources. If you exceed this limit for a villager or a party they will be overburdened and their movement speed will be sharply limited.

However, i have a set of villagers who no not or only rarely have to leave the town, making movement speed a non-issue. I have been loading these people with heavy armor, weapons, bows and about everything i have available to increase their survivability. They are way and beyond their carry limit, but so far i haven't found any issues related to overburdening villagers that do not need to move. It also seems to work fine if you end your expedition near an enemy and subsequently gear your low weight limit party members with carried equipment to increase their effectiveness in case you are attacked.

I am wondering, has anyone else been using this tactic? And if you did, did you notice any drawback? Even if they need to move i can simply swap the heavy gear with a light set of armor i keep stored for them.

Right now Im not using this tactic. I think this need to be fixed somehow.

Plus Im stop using Scaled Leather. This material broken IMHO. It gives too much STR plus very good armor. Basicly with Scaled Leather armor any character bacame warrior. It is 17 armor +6 STR!

I found that I could do it. Considered it an exploit and stopped. I am sure it will be fixed for the future.

I refuse to overload my village characters. Way too abusive and ofcourse no fun either.

I hope they add more penalties to overloading your characters as well.

Presently, the only thing that going over your weight limit does is make you unable to move/have less moves. So, yes, in your village, you can equip your super-weak gatherers with all the heaviest equipment you want and it won't change anything.

The devs are aware of this, and it's something that will change at some point.

If you're okay with using the exploit, by all means, knock yourself out... at least until it's patched out and changes are made to the weight system.

Also consider that it might be a "bad habit" to get used to; if you do it too much now, it might be harder to adapt once it gets changed.

Just give your weak people some +strength gear... easy enough to do.

Hear, Hear to that.

One reason to start this thread was because this tactic felt too much like an exploit when using it. On the other hand it is not a clear bug either (The system work as designed, but perhaps not as intended). I haven't seen a mention that this issue was known or planned to be fixed but if it is, all the better.

I suppose some form of percentual penalty to stats may work wonders (20% over the weight limit? 20% reduction on skills. Since this would reduce both equipment and base skill its a heavy penalty that might be worth paying at times)

It's an exploit, not a bug. As you say, the system works... it's just limited.

It's been a while, so I forget where I saw it, but it's been discussed (a discussion in which a dev took part), and it's something that will be looked at. Probably relatively low priority, though.

Perhaps encumbered characters should not be able to heal?

It will not change anything.

I think game need mechanic that can prevent equipping any items above cargo capacity. If character got curse -STR and cant carry his gear - auto drop his gear. Something like that.

That would be an extremely annoying mechanic. If i would de-equip an item that increases strength and end up under the limit i wouldn't be happy if i were to drop items (Especially if i were just trying various combinations of equipment).

I see the cargo limit as a soft limit. If i were to give you a sword that is too heavy you could still swing it, but just not as effectively. A gradual penalty to gear / skill effectivity seems more realistic, not to mention less annoying to deal with.

Why you want de-equip +STR items and after equip heavy items above cargo capacity? Even just for testing ha ha. But yeah I see what you mean.

And I see the cargo limit in another way. If dude have 300 max cargo capacity that means even with 250 he already carrying a lot. After 300 he cant even move on strategic map for a reason. Thats why example with sword a bit funny for me. =P

To be honest I think STR should add 25 to cargo and not 50. Coz right now 6-7 dudes can carry TONs of materials and the the weight of a weapon or armor important in very rare situations ( mostly for craftsmans and medics ).

Anyone use light armor righ now becouse you want to use very heavy hammer at the same time? Or becouse you wann space for some materials, nope I dont think so.

Plus gear for STR shouldnt add +6. Looking at you Scaled Leather.

Armors and weapons will no longer add strength. This is changed already but simply waiting to get into the build.
Many more changes are waiting to get into the build which should give a bit more balance to the game but its on our beta server.

Nice to know. Any chances we can have access to this beta? Steam have this option. Or you dont wanna to see situations where lets say overbuffed Baba Yaga will eat all our kids? =P

I actually just talked to the ream about it. We would give you access to the beta :D But I want it to be more interesting and I'm working to give you something really really worth proper beta-testing. So it wont be only earlier access to some minor changes, instead it would place where your feedback would help us shape future of the Thea :D (seems like long night in front of me today ;)

Game is sort of the art. And when you release art its no longer yours, it became part of everyone who plays it. You may not notice it during single play but life is shaped by small events like playing game, and game become part of your memories (good or bad)... It became part of everyone who plays it and this way is his/her. It is yours game as much as it ever can be our.
