Good Quality Items - How to craft them?
The last patch changed how quality items can be crated. Before i got sometimes bad quality, sometimes good quality.
In my current game i crafted dozens of swords (quartz + quartz + basic wood) and while i get the occasional bad quality item i never got a good one. I have a smithy and the guy crating the swords has a skill of 7 (3 from smithy).
Is it all because of the catalyst?

The only requirement to craft good quality items is to have a Smithy building. Catalyst and crafter's skill influence the outcome, max chance being 15% I think. So you should be getting at least a small chance, even with poor catalyst. Could be bad luck here, but it would be good to know if others are experiencing something similar.

Did some more testing and so far i am at 73 normal swords, 3 good quality, 8 bad quality. So i guess i was just very unlucky as the 3 good ones are out of the last 20-30 i crafted and the chance with a basic catalyst is very small (which is a good change btw.).

So does the quality of the smithy not matter?

Also: It would be really nice if you did show the chance of getting a good quality item. Right now the player have no chance of knowing what a "good catalyst" is. Is is coal? Dragon bone, Moonstone?

Quality of Smithy influences your Crafting bonus, thus lowering the chance of getting bad quality item.
We'll think about adding info about the quality chance.

I assume you only look at the crafting stat, for the best crafter. Is this correct, or will adding more bad quality craft workers decrease the chance of getting a good item?

So it seems like the best way to get good quality products, is just to have 10 smith buildings :)

To get the best quality items you need to have one smithy (to be able to roll good quality) and the best catalyst.
To avoid making bad quality item, you need to have your Crafting skill high (bad quality is calculated from the following: 20% minus lead crafter's crafting skill, min. 1%).
Bad quality roll is always done first and if it occurs, good quality roll is not even attempted.

So once your Crafting skill is around 19, extra won't affect quality chance?

seems not, just the speed the item is done. My dwarf has 24 crafting, havent seen him make any bad quality yet, good quality is also rare tho (1 out of 10 or so).

Thanks for the confirmation; I am really bad at math, so people have to spoon-feed me numbers ;)

Sorry for the necro, but didn't want to post something already posted: My question is as follows:

When does the bad quality roll happen? At the beginning of the crafting of the item? Or 1 turn before it is done. For example:

I have an item that takes 5 turns to make with a lead crafter with crafting skill lvl 6 . If I leave this crafter till turn 1,2,3,4 and before he finishes making it I swap him with a lead crafter lvl 20? Will I get an item with 1% of bad quality chance?

It happens at the end so yes you can add the good crafter for the last turn of production for only a 1% chance of a bad quality item.
