Crafting things you don't need just for Research
Hi everyone.
I've been really enjoying the game but recently found out an issue. It seems that best way to speed up Research progress is to craft items regardless you need them or not. Compared to other research sources, crafting provides much more. So if I have enough resources and enough crafters, optimal way is just spam-craft the same tools to get XP.
I think such approach is not logical (why do I get the same experience while making the same thing 20 times). I would say it's better to introduce research points penalty when crafting multiple identical items from same resources.

The whole reaserch thing doesnt go well in my opinion.

There should be production option "Reasearch" where you put your villagers. Based on their Intelligence you would get progress bar filled (same as gathering). Each cycle would give one reasearch point.

This is not Civilization though. The idea was to make it different, it's fun like this and it makes you really think about spending resources when they're scarce. Would you rather make common sets of gear to equip your party or just the one sword or building that will boost your research by a lot? Would you rather make that sword or those necklaces with the limited amount of things you have, etc. etc. making things more like Civ is not going to help the RPG side of things at all.

"Research" tree is indeed just perfection in crafting. Either by finding out how to get more rare resources or hwo to turn them into better items. I think gaining this type of progression from crafting makes a lot of sense. Its not there for realism though. Its just a way to allow player to produce research via most of his daily works in a fairly controlled way. We will need to rebalance all task types to allow player produce research as "anotehr gathering" way and it will make research even harder for high difficulty levels. Also ballancing research would be much harder as we iwll have litle-to-none was to control it th eway we have with resources avaliable. Yes you can still progress fialry fast on easy difficulty levels by spammig useless craft. so it is very similar to waht you will get by working on task which does not produce anything. But for players which plays on high difficulty crafting and finding resources is hard enough and research is more of a byproduct of survival than another "thing to progress"

But sometimes all your Crafters are dead and your progress i heavly cripppled.

Balnacing factor for Thea would be population. You cant craft, gather, do the explration and reasearch at the same time with limited number of villagers.

Did not play all those new Civs and didnt know that you can put citizens manualy to do the reasearch.

build tools and a blacksmith early in any game, and it doesnt matter who is in town.

It is fine as it is. By making tons of items with gems you can get those rare bonuses (+Magic, +Medic, +Strenght).
