Attracting Goblins
How do I atract these bastards. They'll join my parties, but no my village. I've built everything with onyx and my population is not maxed out, but nooooo.. not a single goblin.

Since I alsready asking, how about elves?

I've done it with dwarves, demons and animals, but not those two up above.

It actually takes a long time. Even with 10 buildings using the same material to max the chance it takes a while.
Soetimes you get lucky as I did on e time with 3 Orcs in 4 turns. That'll never happen to me again lol.

Hehe, I was about to make a post asking why I've never gotten a Goblin with +15 Attract Goblin. So I'm interested in a dev answer here.

What is the +XX vs. actual percentage chance? Is +15 a 15% chance?

I have 110 people in parties, and 16 in my village.... So....

Guess that explains it lol

Attract chance is scaled to your population size, with it's value dropping off really heavily at ~25+ iirc.

If you want a bunch of one race, beeline for the attraction buildings and minimize/avoid the attract baby/attract human stats.

attract calculation is very complex and many facters are taken into the account, but simply said time progression + current population + attraction strenght are the strongest factors which are taken into consideration. So eg the soft and hard limits are going up a little with each passing turn.

Yea, I gave up on that game and started a new one. Not that I didn't meet two win conditions already, but I really wanted those damned goblins.

way I figure it, if you build attraction buildings *early* then they can have some real impact.

but after your population has increased a good bit for whatever reason - children maturing, or random villagers taken on through events (including animals), then your building attraction isn't great.

So if you go for obsidian pasture quite early then you can hope to get a goblin or two, yeah.

But if you build obsidian stuff late then . . . not so much.

elves same. except getting in a huge load of elven wood isn't something you can do until pretty late in the game, by which time your population can be too big.

==

Try playing on lower difficulty levels, especially with realism off, and build multiple palisades of the appropriate type. Like eight elven wood palisades is a lot, if your population is low-medium eventually you may get an elf. maybe.

In thea you dont "produce" characters, they need to find you in the wild and be wiling to join ;) You were simply unlucky :P

If you don't reload when you lose characters, your amount of people will be lower, thus, increasing the chance for special races to join in late game.

I never reload. I try to keep mine out of crappy situations.

The reason I have so many is that I was 1400 turns into the current game as I was achievement hunting. My usual games don't last anywhere near that long.

Let the humans die to replace them with elves or kill the dwarves to get some orcs.
This is a pretty bad game mechanic with a not intended but existing racist undertone.

At least some events where you can feed your people to trolls or giants will have a right to exist now.
But I am pretty sure that they will always pick my elite warriors instead of all my low skilled people who have joined my village without asking me...
