How does progression work?
And by progression I mean difficulty, basically. Like, do things get more difficult over time? Or is it as I move further away from my town?

Basically, I'm a newb, and feel that I might be rushing things maybe... i.e. not gearing up enough and taking my time... but I'm also worried I'm actually not rushing *enough*, that it actually just gets so much harder so fast and that I'm just doomed to fail cause I suck...

So... anyone who have played this for a while who can shed some light on this? I already play on Easy difficulty, as gatherers (which I've read can be easier), but already feel I meet things that are too hard too often.

From the FAQ, the world difficulty progresses automatically every X turns through 10 "levels", where X is a value from 12-30 depending on your Difficulty setting. You are also more likely to encounter higher level monsters/lairs the further you get from your town (and they could randomly wander towards your town), and you can slow down the progression of the world by clearing out monster lairs.

I finally just beat it after two solid days of playing. (default difficulty) It took me around 450 turns to finish the story quest and god quest. I finished giants at around 650. I realize this is probably stupid slow, but boy was completion satisfying. I can't really answer your question... but things got a hell of a lot easier once I learned how OP 2-handed hammers are and got a set of mythril ones.

So, are you done? Or is another playthru in your future?

Giving strategy advice isn't something I excell at but I'll try and give some info.

So difficulty progression, if you kill lairs and mobs of enemies as they appear on the map the difficulty progression advances slower than if you don't destroys lairs/mobs so even if you mill around taking a long time (as I do) the difficulty can still creep up on you and you can find yourself fight difficulty 5 enemies with basic equipment or under-manned. Not saying you will be caught unaware but it will happen from time to time.

This is pretty much the time taken for me to play my average game, taking time and going at my own pace is very enjoyable to me.I also play games all the time I can and when I've finished levelling all the gods I create another profile and start again from scratch.

Asking me? I'm not done yet, but feel like I've gotten more on top of things now. Gotten more dudes, and focused more on getting better gear and such than progressing too fast through stuff =)

My main challenge right now is with my expeditions. I am heavily focused on Combat, just startring out, and my other skills are pretty low. I need to start taking more guys with some more skills for those challenges. Still in the tutorial though, trying to do that divine quest. Game is addicting!
