Villager Name List
I'd like to know where this is found (or if it can be edited) so I can add the names of friends to the list without having to manually edit them every game (also because it's gratifying to have them pop up randomly)

Similarly: Portraits; I realise this is something that has been brought up closer to the games release and got a dev reply but it only got a maybe and I'd really love custom portraits as a feature.

I like this idea, to be able to add names to the random name generator.

Just bumping an old post with the same question.

as far as I can tell both features are currently hardcoded.

I want to understand what the problem here is. Clearly you have your assets in a seperate file apart from your game logic. They could be located in something as obvious as 'resources.assets' in the game's main directory.

Now write a simple tool - very simple, just a few lines - that
  1. ...allows the user to specify a certain number of .jpgs
  2. ...copy-and-pastes the original resources.assets
  3. ...finds the section in it that is named [Avatars] or [Character portraits] or whatever you named them
  4. ... and at this position inserts the above mentioned .jpgs

This will create a new resources.assets that allows the main game to choose between X new portraits and (MaxNumberOfPortraits-X) old portraits to be randomly displayed.

This solution might of course run into problems if the main game is checking for a checksum.

Development on Thea is now at the maintance, ballance, and bug-fixing.

The dev team is focusing on currently nameless project 2.0 which includes hovering or flying post modern looking craft.

As easy as the tool might be to make it is currently outside of thier revenue model, and probably rightly so, to invest time in new development for Thea.

Obviously hardcoding is a thing of too much effort to fix in post-development so all I ask is that devs keep this feature in mind for their next game as it adds a dimension of enjoyment to streams of slow strategy games for crowds who would otherwise have no interest in them. I got into XCom from watching streams of named characters; it adds an element of much needed investment into otherwise dry gameplay (to an outsider).

Atleast we have the option to change names as we see fit. So, it isn't like a game breaking omission. :)
