Underrated Characters/Creatures
While playing Thea recently I got rather excited in the early game (turn 23) when I attracted one of my favourite character types and it got me thinking which characters/creatures that aren't commonly used do other people have an interest in. I know pretty much everyone loves elves with a two-handed axe or dwarves, human warriors and orc fighters.

My main favourite underused character is the Human Scavenger. They can do just about a bit of anything preventing them from almost being a dead weight card and 9/10 times they have the poison skill when you get one. Plus poison is one of their class skills so when they "level up" they have a chance to get +2 poison. Combined with a good ancient wood spear they can dish out a very high poison damage. They also often have a gathering skill of 2-3 which can make then a good backup gathering.

So what are some of your favourite charatcers/creatures that probably don't see much use if any? I'd love to hear what makes them great to you.

I've gotten many witches who start with 8 gather skill...they're basically gatherers with medic and magic skills, but their strength is a bit low.

I don't know that they're "underrated" so much as they're just fillers.

Scavenger oh all right, you get Poison, which is nice. But is that really any substitute for an elf with a two-hand axe, or a dwarf with high strength and craft, or a character with Magic that unlocks additional possibilities in encounters? It's like all right if you get a Scavenger it's not bad, but it's just okay.

As to stuff that's I guess you'd call it second-tier specialists (as opposed to elves and dwarves or striga or something) -

Hohlick: Pretty sucky but it has Magic

Child Wraith: Pretty sucky but it has gigantic Leech, which means you can send a couple with autoresolve against 3-4 skull enocunters and they have a good chance of winning, and you don't need to give them food (you can), but any combats they fight in probably see them healed up to full again what with that ridiculous Leech

Bear: Pretty sucky but it has big ol' Strength so it can help carry stuff, which isn't bad.

Anything: Get a Smithy, or multiple Smithies on lower difficulty, then suddenly your crows and bees or whatnot are turning out cooked meals for everyone.

Oh, I can't stand Scavengers. I have a revolving door policy in place for them.

Child Wraiths are actually pretty good, I think. They've got a number of other high stats aside from Leech.

I don't think most people like having beasts around, and for the most part, I don't either, but I never turn away a Royal Crow or a Striga Bat. They both have a few decent stats.

I like getting the Rocker, too, even though it's not particularly great at anything.

A few rare additions I'm always happy to get are a Hala and the Poludnica. They've got some high stats too.

Honestly I just play with what I get naturally. Elves almost never, for some reason I don't have elven wood close by and even if I build something with it, no elf is ever attracted. Also dwarves rarely, because I use gold for other things, so I get them only with Lada from the event, but that is too late to really matter.

Thus (except humans) I have mostly goblins, because lot of dark wood in my games. Not sure if underrated but they are pretty good. I also use to have lot of beasts around, once I had some kind of bee queen or something, was pretty good in fight and gathering. Last game starving wolf was with me from almost the beginning to the very end, where mighty creatures like Poludnica did not make it.

Any creature is welcome in my camp.

Welp yes, thats so true for higher difficulty, especially bloodbath.

One mistake and you end up with 5 dudes xD

Scavengers are decent damage dealers, they need equipment for tactical skills, and you can stick them on gathering if you'd rather do social stuff. The best thing about them can be their low level if the rest of your expedition is all quite high. Bandits seem to be a better combat class and bandits are still behind warriors and rangers.

The classes that are weaker than youi'd expect are the ones that cannot use equipment. Child wraiths look great but there's no solving the problems they bring with them, like the lack of tactical skills.

I wouldn't say that "everyone likes Human Warriors". Quite the contrary. They are underrated, and that's my unit that I like that's underrated. Equipping a 2H sword in one hand is stronk.

I recognize this name from the Brigandine forums lol. Glad to see you're a Thea player as well!

I basically start any game with 1 object in mind, build the archery range with elven wood. Then I attract Elves, whilst converting children to hunters. Hunt and ambush are the safe attack, next you need another medic from herbalist. leave 1 in village other travels with expedition. Elves are must have as they come ready armed with some good stuff. Pinechonettes, rats, bears and Vilfy are basically extra fillers for an expedition. Orcs are useful but get yourself a ghost for full equip and it's powers.

Another favourite, had a drink with the first dwarf who heads your way, early part of game. He joined me with 9 craft, saved me making two kids into crafting. But the ultimate is planetnix, he's fully equipable and by that time you should have all the Mithral / Diamond / Moonstone available for the best of everything. So he ends up a one man army even though I still use him with others. He's over 200 health and takes everything that would kill the others, over 3000 strength he can carry a mountain of stuff back for crafting. With the top jewellry, arms and armour he rates 20 + in stealth, intelligence, will etc. Thing is to get him you need a well equipped army as you'll have to finish Giants quest successfully.
