Exactly my concern. Can this game be played like Caesar 3 or similar and with no need for centralized servers? If so I might take a chance on this, if not no dice.
I have verified that now on their Discord. So I am very happy to hear that.
singleplayer has combat, invasion of barbarians, but is mostly a city building game focused in singleplayer, the real game is meant to be played in multipalyer but singleplayer is very well possible
I hear ya. No singleplayer is a no go!
You really don't know who you are even calling noobs.
I have zero problem with PVP games, I play and have played some of the most brutally PVP MMOs ever made. My concern about having to log into a centralized server to play a game has nothing what so ever to do with that.
My concern is the game not making it and 6 months from now the servers go dark and the game no longer works. That was my concern. Not that your comment even deserved an explanation there it is anyway.
This pretty much happened with Tooth and Tail, and I'm glad that I didn't get into it no matter how good the game looked. Ymir looks way too nice to skip but without a decent single player mode it's pretty much a no-go. I don't have gaming friends and I'm not willing to try my luck with randoms, kids, people with poor connection or droppers.
Firstly, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE ONLINE TO PLAY. In fact, there is a game mode that can only be single player. It is a viable way to experience the game. A large portion of my game time has been in single player and I've loved it.
Secondly, while it is true that no AI has been implemented yet, the game is challenging and complicated enough without other players that it's still fun as a single-player game. At its core, Ymir is a vast, deep, economic simulator that explores the beginning of human civilisation through the proxy of porcos (pigmen). It's a beautiful game that has afforded me many, many hours of enjoyment (and frustration). When I make it through the tumultuous early game where any mistake could be the end of my small, stone age tribe and finally make it to the Copper Age, then the Bronze Age, then the Iron Age, and finally Steel, it feels like an amazing achievement.
Give this game a chance. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
