Useless Defence?
Been testing out a few formations against CSKA Moskow Friendly on my liverpool game. One thing I have found is regardless of formation, tactics, team setting or defence depth, they constantly breach clear of the defence with achre's of space. Even if I set my defence deep they break with their fast players on the midway line.

It seems no matter what I do their fast players will break away leaving my defenders in the dust.

One thing could be they are still learning tactics but I have never seen a defence breached about 20 times in a single half repeatedly without being able to do anything about it.

Just wandering if others have seen this? It could be the engine favouring quick players potentially.

Also it seems my defenders are incapable of marking as the player they are set to mark is almost completly left alone :/

I would look at your player roles, particulary your center backs. For this situation having one set to cover is ideal.

Are you defenders marking/pace/acceleration low? That could also be a cause.

One of the key factors of making a formation hard to beat is playing narrow. Narrow condesnses your back like making it extremely hard to penetrate particulary through the middle. This is very useful if you have slow, but very good in the air CB who can just wait for the crosses to come in.

Finally check your opposition instructions. You dont want to mark someone tight if they are fast as they will just turn and break away.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. Tried narrow and no marking on the fast forward line. Still lost but not to the insane breakaways. Now they just played the ball around the box while my defenders stared in awe (Skrtl & Sakho). Still, this is something I can work with so an improvement there.

Thanks again! :)

My defence is quite good, I think a lot of it comes down to player roles/duties combined with tactic mentality the more attacking the mentality the more you will need players who will stay 'back' for example I play a counter mentality and only have the CBs set on defend everything else is support/attack, if i wanted to change it to control I would make the wing backs support and the defensive midfielder either BWM or a defend duty.

Of course this is only theory crafting only done one season.
Well to be honest DF AI on this year FM are still not 100% perfect. They aware of it on the forum and still working on it for the fix patch. For me yes I have the same situation for you when I first start FM 16, the temporary solution for me are make your tactics to reach fluid state as soon as possible. On my early game my DF are acting just like a fool, but when my tactics reach fluid and I put my training schedule to teamwork that solved the stupid DF problem. Well not 100% perfect, but at least for me it can put down DF error into less than 45% compare to my early game.

I'm on fourth season now as Man Utd. Using De Gea as my only GK on whole season I never get conceded more than 17 goals per season. My DF are Shaw, Smalling, Jones, Darmian.

Will hope it gets better. Another issue I seen is the GK...while Migolet is not a great keeper by any means, he is conceding like he is in Div 2. I have now counted 3 goals in pre-season that have literally slipped through his fingers. Infuriating :)
While Mignolet on my first season game are on rank 3 in most GK saves under De Gea and Curtois.. LOL

Half of my defence has assits to the other team, countless times players have just literally passed the ball to the other team inside my own box. Wouldnt mind if I was being outplayed or outcoached but more then 60% of my conceeded goals come from an assit from my own player

Short passing and retain possesion as team instructions?
DevilHatman Nov 17, 2015 @ 1:27pm
retain possession is a bit of a joke... your midfield/defenders make a tackle and suddenly find themselves frozen in time and instantly lose possession. They receive a ball, then turn around back to goal and stand there until they get tackled.

this version is better than previous years, but it still needs a lot of work. Hell, my goalkeeper just made a save, spilled the ball about 2 feet in front of the line. No one was near him, 5 seconds later as he gets to his feet he kicks the ball into his own net for an own goal. Seriously? Newcastle are crap, and regularly implode... but never quite like that

You have to save that tactics, so that the team are used to it.
The save tactics have to be more than a few weeks of games (not rightly before the game), as you can see in the indicator

yer i agree with all you guys the only thing im finding with the game is i can have all the ball but i get almost no shots on target and hardly score more then 1 goal a game and everytime the other team gets in my last 3rd my DF are headless chickens they just watch players run past and dont bother to chace or tackle and i have de gea in goal and his always letting them in a ball will be shot straight at him and 8/10 times it goes in

The game makes up for a better team NOT by making them better but making the worse team bad. IE You might be against a worse team so your guys play normal and they do silly things like stand there or miss when shooting. But when you play a better team, your guys get stupid and do silly things. If both are even then its a good match with out the silly theatrics.

When my mid leauge team plays Man U they act as if they are star struck and just stand there, they always miss or hit the post, or run around like checkens with their heads chopped off LOL. But they stop the sillyness when we play another mid leauge team.
