1. On mac or windows, right click (windows) / two finger tap (mac) and click properties.
2. Click local files.
3. Click verify integrity of game cache.
If everything checks out, try running the game again.
If it says the game is already running.... On windows open your task manager (right click the taskbar aka the bar on the bottom of the screen containing the start button and current time) and click task manager. Look for "Steam Client Bootstrapper", click it and then click End Task. Now try running the game again.
If your on a Mac and the game is already running.... Click the Apple menu, click Force Quit, select Steam and click Force Quit; and try running the game again.
If you've done all that, and it still doesn't work.... It would be best to try reinstalling the game.
In Steam,
1. On mac or windows, right click (windows) / two finger tap (mac) and click properties.
2. Click local files.
3. Click Delete Local Game Content. Yes, this deletes the game.
4. Restart the computer now <-- important.
5. Go to your Steam library.
6. Search for Football Manager 2016 in the search, and click it when it appears.
7. Install.
8. Try playing now.
If it still doesn't work... Then complain here: http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php/519-Football-Manager-2016-Bugs-Forum :)
Come to think of it, that's possible... so go here: C:\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2016\games and back up those files.
edit: just a note, some games don't delete save game folders and some do... I've never had to uninstall FM which is why I'm not sure but I wouldn't be too worried. In the future, you could use the Steam cloud save to back them up too.
