they don't... some bullets look bigger than their hitbox is. also the hitbox of "yourself" is a lot smaller than you would imagine. That leads to the impression of "faulty" hitboxes, when in fact it's a visual issue above anything else.

explain this one?

Bullet visually bigger than the bullet's actual hitbox. This wouldn't have worked if you played Ultra mode on non-novice diffculty, by the way. End of explanation.

What the above statements mean to say is, get good and play on the real difficulty levels. Your ship hitbox is literally the tiny circle in the middle of your ship, and those bullets (as stated above) have hitboxes smaller than their sprites.

It's not about "git gud". Novice Ultra isn't there merely for casual purposes, some people don't have the time on their hands to route and practice "normal" ultra, and there's nothing wrong about that. The thing is that this spread out pattern was passable the way he did it, because on novice the pattern is less dense, normally people would not do it the way he has in the video, let alone that just flying through this fan of bullets isn't going to be working consistantly in novice anyways.

Still, even if the bullet hitbox is smaller, I personally find it very frustrating to feel like I was supposed to die but didn't. Bullets already appear of different sizes, I don't expect to die only when their center pixel hits me but the whole sprites. I really like the game, but this problem (yes, it is a problem) really takes away the fun and challenge out of it. If possible, I hope this gets fixed.

Think of it this way: Having your hitbox inside of another bullet's sprite is a risk you normally wouldn't go for just like that. That being said, the "faulty" hitboxes merely make the game somewhat forgiving, rather than encourage abuse.

I don't know. For me this just makes me feel like I can breeze through waves of bullets without needing to be too careful. Completely removes any sense of actual danger out of it.

You'd have a point if this principle of "faulty" hitboxes would apply to this game in its entirety. It doesn't though. At least not from my point of view. Not to mention that in many danmakus especially some of the bigger bullets have smaller hitboxes than it seems. That being said, this "phenomenon" isn't uncommon either. But to each their own, right?

If you play like that you will find yourself dying a lot.

The hitbox is no deal breaker. I still like the game and I am still careful about not being killed. And yes, I am aware of other bullet hells. But in other bullet hells, when a bullet hits your sprite's center pixel you die. Here, when a bullet hits your center pixel, sometimes you don't die. It"s ok to like this, I just personally don't.

Glad this works for you. :)

ill give it another whirl on ultra setting or whatnot.

It's intentional, those bullet hell games are designed so the hitboxes are much smaller than the characters and bullets.
