Magnus is a TNT maniac who likes to blow up stuff.
Who would you rather die. The TNT maniac or the smart girl?
Here we're dealing with a giant bomb, Magnus is the master of explosives so it's very likely that his armor would provide more protection/blast resistance then Ellegaards armor. Since I'm the one who's going to be making the bomb and risking my life I'm not too concerned about taking Magnus's armor since he'll be with the others and hopefully they will help protect him.
Now I'd be lieing if I said the end result didn't surprise me a little, but it didn't have as much impact on me because I barrely knew Magnus since I choose to travel to Ellegaards place.
See where I'm going at here? There are sadistic choices in all Telltale games, whether you like it or not. Sorry but there is no third option. You have to pick one or the other.
