Telltale Games got back to me quite quickly. I'm relieved that I followed their instructions and we can now access the game! I will post the instructions in another discussion...
I had kept the sync with cloud off but the problem was still there...thanks for your help..
...Solving permission restrictions on your Documents folder that is preventing the game from saving, connecting, and storing your preferences...
Open C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents and allow full user permissions for that Documents folder and everything within it for the computer account you are currently using. You can change permissions by right-clicking Documents, selecting Properties, then selecting the Security tab.
You can also try these more detailed steps if the issues persists or if you are unsure on how to add permissions:
1. Right click an affected folder and select Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, then click the "Advanced" button.
3. Click "Change" next to Owner.
4. Type your username, click the "Check Names" button, then click OK.
5. Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" under the owner's name.
6. Click OK again. If you get a message saying "Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you full control?", click "Yes."
7. Click the "Edit" button.
8. Click on your username from the list and check "Full control" underneath it.
9. Click OK, then click OK again.
After following these steps, please launch the game again and see if you are able to progress past the Appearance screen.
If you still encounter issues with connecting to our (Telltale Games) servers, we are aware of an issue that is blocking connections to our servers. Our team (Telltale Games) is currently investigating this issue and we hope to have updates on a resolution very soon.
