Annoyed !!- can't play Minecraft Story Mode - can't get past choose appearance - not connecting to server
Firstly, I am not receiving the email from Telltale Games with the email verification code. How can the new account be verified if we are not even receiving the verification email from Telltale Games?! I keep requesting a new code be sent and to still not avail. It's obvious to me that an account has been set up, since I update the Telltale profile.....

Therefore, why do I keep getting the ridiculous message "the game is having a problem connecting to the server" whenever I try to sign in. I noted that Telltale Games clients had this same problem for other games in 2014! Why hasn't this issue been fixed? I've read the client problems and the solutions on the forums and doing a vast search on the internet for a solution but nothing has helped. We cannot even log in to save the files and have to choose "no thank you"

Secondly, I am extremely upset. I have bought Minecraft Story Mode for my children after being patient for the opening date only to find that after buying it, they cannot even gain access to play. We are constantly blocked at choosing an appearance. We select a character and the only choice left to us is the "back" button and not a "play" button. We click on the back button and guess what - we arrive at the beginning to click play again only to arrive at choose an appearance again! this cycle repeats itself. We cannot even get past choosing an appearance to play.

I look forward to Steam's professional advice. I have written to Telltale Games..

You can turn off sync with cloud in settings. That might solve that. It does if you have already started playing. Not syncing with the cloud means it just uses the saved file that is on your computer.

Telltale Games got back to me quite quickly. I'm relieved that I followed their instructions and we can now access the game! I will post the instructions in another discussion...

I had kept the sync with cloud off but the problem was still there...thanks for your help..

Telltale Games got back to me very quickly so I'm sharing this info just in case it can help somebody else. I had already had full permissions set up but there was another "unknown user" listed under document user names. No idea where this "unkown user" came from or how it was created! I deleted it and we could finally select an appearance and enter the game to play!

...Solving permission restrictions on your Documents folder that is preventing the game from saving, connecting, and storing your preferences...

Open C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents and allow full user permissions for that Documents folder and everything within it for the computer account you are currently using. You can change permissions by right-clicking Documents, selecting Properties, then selecting the Security tab.

You can also try these more detailed steps if the issues persists or if you are unsure on how to add permissions:

1. Right click an affected folder and select Properties.

2. Click the Security tab, then click the "Advanced" button.

3. Click "Change" next to Owner.

4. Type your username, click the "Check Names" button, then click OK.

5. Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" under the owner's name.

6. Click OK again. If you get a message saying "Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you full control?", click "Yes."

7. Click the "Edit" button.

8. Click on your username from the list and check "Full control" underneath it.

9. Click OK, then click OK again.

After following these steps, please launch the game again and see if you are able to progress past the Appearance screen.

It's a very new game, I had the same and it just wasn't whitelisted in my Firewall just add it to your firewall list and give it access to internet and no problem thereafter.

I'm sorry the solution provided by Telltale Games hasn't worked for some of you. I also turned off the Deep Guard in F-Secure and the game started up fine. You may have to write to Telltale games and/or look on their website for other solutions. Good Luck!
