Why a lot of people hate this game

Some people don't seem to get the hate. Basically- there are two main types of people. Those who like minecraft and realise the whole point is there is no story, so calling this "Story Mode" pisses them off (and making it a separate game), not to mention the fact that it really is nothing like minecraft. Then there is the second type, which I am, who are sick of minecraft being everywhere. Like- I used to like the game, I understand why people like it- I just no longer find it fun and think Jeb ruined it by adding so much annoying and pointless sh*t- and minecraft is just everywhere. And I think both sides agree that the little kids who are obsessed with the game (and who are stupidly bad at it for how addicted they are) are incredibly annoying and ruin the whole games community.

You know, there was a time where people just called stuff they didn't like "♥♥♥♥", or bad.

As in, "minecraft is ♥♥♥♥", which would be a statement that I completely agree with, it's much more comparable to excrement than horrible disease.

Cancer really is a terrible disease. Hopefully in the next thirty years with improvements with computers, they will be able to solve these health problems.

There was only ONE tree type, and you LIKED IT.
If you didn't want to kill for food, you ate wheat. THATS IT.

After seeing the trailer, I'm left wondering just how this title is going to forward the interests the original Minecraft was designed to satisfy. That said, what would be the outcome?

Remember how there was a recent "Lego Movie"?
Were there suddenly a lot of people buying standard Lego sets, creating their own new things, or was it just a gigantic merchandising success for pre-built sets?

Will this "story mode" edit out some of the actually mundane and repetetive moments in gameplay (like mining, building and pretty much everything else you do in Minecraft) a-la montage to get to the next interesting phase of game progression?

I can't help but think this homage to Minecraft will be aesthetically similar to the original, but fundamentally missing the point by a long shot.

I notice that "In this five part episodic series", which more episodic would be out in the future.
Usually, you needed to pay for each episodic.

If you've done one minute of research, you'd know that this isn't really Minecraft. It's a Telltale game with Telltale gameplay.

Well, not liking Telltale's games is probably the only decent reason not to like this I've seen yet, especially with how their gameplay hasn't changed since they first used it.

Once you buy it you get every episode. The episodes are just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ excuse to end on cliffhangers within one game and make you wait for the next one, meaning they can just realese a unfinished game but you'll know that and still buy it. Like Assassin's Creed Unity if instead of not finishing the actual gameplay they didn't finish the story.
