I used a pickaxe, took 3 hits to destroy the block and Reuben dies either way. I don't think it's possible to save the little guy.

can't you prevent this in the first place
there were a few times earlier when you have a split second to do an action like to grab petra but you have to click the tentcle to jump. or grab the amulet when you drop it. would that work.

My first run was with the Pickaxe cuz who doesnt love diamond pickaxes? Sadly... Reuben died and was hoping a different weapon of choice could save him but it doesn't look like they can...
