What is support power and does it effect engis/tanks?

Support power is the term used for all non-DPS (Assault) powers. So in Wildstar this either Tanking or Healing depending on your class.

In the case of the Engineer support power refers to tanking. Examples of important support stats for a tank are Damage mitigation, Glance and Deflect as well just about any stat that decreases damage taken or reducing the chance of taking damage all together.

I'm not an expert on tanking so I can't tell much more about how much you need of which stat etc. but I hope this gives you a general idea on what Support power is in this game.

Support power increases the efectiveness of your support abilities, with the engi it increases the damage of the tanking abilities (for aggro) and the absortion of the defensive abilities

Ahh, so if I focus on support power as an engi, I will be hard to kill but practically deal no damage?...ouch. Don't think that's very useful for solo play e.e

Yeah if you're leveling up, its always useful to go dps(assault) gear to level better and quicker. At 50, if you want to switch over to tank, its a lot easier to get all the support gear you need to be a tank.

But even at level 50, I should still go DPS unless I'm in a party, right?

Depend, my tank is itm lvl 95 and can solo most of the things and 2-5 man bosses. never had problem doing dailies
