And yes I know this is the WildStar forum. Im just looking for answers on NCSoft.

Ive been looking for a solid, long term MMORPG since the old days of SOE came to an end. After a long search that produced lots of busted dreams, WildStar seemed like it was the game I had been looking for.

2 and a half years later......

Time to begin searching again. I am trying out Guild Wars 2 atm, and so far enjoying. But to my shock, NCSoft was behind it. And you can find some small, nostalgic WildStar hints. But, back when the end of WildStar was announced, the story I read (or remember anyways) was:

"2 games failed financially for NCSoft and so, WildStar and the rumored new MMO in very early developement was cancelled"

Now, I dunno what happened to the "2 failed games" or which games they were. But if they failed, presumably they will be shutdown or at least close to being shutdown.

Meantime, Ive also tried ESO and hands down, that game is setup to last for years! And the huge crowds in so many cities, how busy the chat is, and the prices, I just cant imagine it being shutdown anytime soon, barring a major setback to the MMO Industry.

So, long story short: Is GW2 a safe game to get into long term(long term being a game thats available for years to come) maybe invest some money or is any and all NCSoft games in danger these days? And yes I know the company is hated, especially right now.

I could. OR you could provide a more in-depth, helpful answer. As said, I know the company is hated right now, but I still want a fair, honest answer about their future and the future of their games.

Being that the Devs behind Guild Wars 2 have also kept the original game alive for so long after releasing the second now I wouldn't put it past the to keep Guild Wars 2 alive a solid 5-7 years after they released the next sequel, if or when they decided to. You could even play the original Guild Wars now if you wanted to.

(my english is pure gargabe, apologies) GW2 is alive thx to devs, ArenaNet, the subreddit is always very active and well im glad Anet has some sort of "freedom" managing gw2 otherwise it wouldnt be here anymore, specially with Nctrash hands over the game, ive played gw2 since 2015 and you can find people everywhere, the game is far from shutting down no doubt.

Ncsoft is trash, they shutted down Master X Master in 2017, a moba game that didnt last a year due stupid decisions like "lets give em more grinding so they cant achieve sht unless they pay fton of money or 24/7 non-stop".

Then when Lineage II went F2P in 2012 it was awesome, hordes of newbs, playerbase was huge and i wasted 2 years playing it but then the p2w sht became so disgusting by 2015 you couldnt do sht against whales who one shot ya, visa warriors could 1 vs 10 f2p guys literally and theres no chance for you in the competitive pvp scene without 300-500 bucks invested on different items to boost ur stats and pewpew, plus farming areas are controlled by specific groups with bots and bullies always ready to kill your character.

the Lineage 2 mobile crap is the same, p2w trash, seriously whats up with koreans and cashgrab p2w 24/7 grind sht? anyway, NCsoft sucks they are one of the worst publishers so dont expect anything from them they only care for $$$ so if wildstar doesnt give expected results welp im sorry guys, say goodbye, ncsoft be like "players? f em wheres my money?" this is the kind of company who shuts down the project for not getting enough moneys or just to invest more in any other more succesful game or project they have around, i wouldnt be surprised if they launch a battleroyale crap with wildstar resources... stay away from NCSOFT.

Yes I even saw some Steam reviews on these old Guild wars games saying that the cities were becoming populated again, even. So you think the game has a solid 5-7 years, at least?

Sounds as if ArenaNet is keeping the game open and active far more than NCSoft. Thanks for the reply!

PLUS ncsoft launched the Lineage 2 steam version like 2-3 years ago with brand new server called "Zaken" it was a success... for 2-3 months till steam community realized:

1- game is p2w af
2- no control over bots and cheaters, you could watch em running and infesting either high or low lvl areas.
3- ncsoft couldnt care less bout it they told steam players "meh deal with it..."

as result they removed lineage 2 from steam, it was a total failure but seriously this publisher gives to players the middle finger everytime things go wrong, they rather shut down a game than listen playerbase and fix it (city of heroes, mxm, wildstar, pangya and linege 2 anytime soon)

oh you would be surprised to know that Turbine basically blew away the money they got from NCsoft to gund their own little projects.

Needless to say not even koreans like being taken for a ride so you can say thanks to the incompetent ppl behind Wildstar for leading the game into its grave before throwing ♥♥♥♥ at Ncsoft

And my opinion bout why they suck is due the fact that they f up and destroyed Lineage 2 then Master X Master, it was the ncsoft "heroes of the storm" with Rytock from GW2, BnS, Lineage 2, CoH characters but their hardcore korean grind thinking & cashgrab policy destroyed the game.

They only advertise 4 games at the official ncsoft (west) website, Lineage 2, Aion, Blade & Soul and finally wildstar, wheres the rest?
Its a shame GW2 shares credits with Ncsoft, sure gw2 couldnt have exist without them but now Arena net, the developer is the one keeping the game alive and well, Ncsoft doesnt care too much bout western market they are focused on 2-3 !#!$@ lineage mobile p2w games with borderline nsfw female toons available only in asia and milking Lineage 1 his biggest achievement in vg industry... in south corea, just read the ncsoft or X ncsoft game subreddit, this company is clueless and careless for whatever happens outside korea & asia, sorry for the engrish.

Guild Wars 2 is going to be around quite a few more years. Population spikes hard around holidays and new Living World content (and of course expansions but that isn't nearly as common but considerably more intense). The only thing that keeps it from being WoW level of immortality is it being owned by NCsoft.

So, basically, if any other company published it, there would never be a need to even consider the game being shut down? Sounds nice, especially since it has given me some nostalgic WildStar memories. Do wish the graphics were a tad more like WildStar's but oh well.
