You should at the very least play RE2 remake to understand how emotional of an impact it is for Leon to revisit RCPD

I highly recommend that you play the following games before Requiem:
-Resident Evil 2 and/or Resident Evil 2 Remake
-Resident Evil 7
-Resident Evil 4 and/or Resident Evil 4 Remake

The reason is because Requiem lifts the various gameplay styles seen in these games and mixes it all into one unified game. The resulting product is more satisfying when you've seen the individual building pieces in the previous games.

You also get numerous character cameos that are more satisfying to see if you've played the games those characters are from.

For the cameos, you may optionally also want to play:
-Resident Evil 1
-Resident Evil Oubtreak File 1 & 2
-Resident Evil 5

However, modern Resident Evil plot is NOT THAT SERIOUS, so it's not a huge deal if you skip straight to Requiem, I just don't recommend it.

You don't need to, but I would definitely recommend not rushing into it and starting with RE2. It would make the experience better.

This is my first ever Resident Evil and I can confirm it was very enjoyable. I was missing some context during some callback moments but I still had a lot of fun. It has made me a fan of the series.

you need to start from RE2 and I also suggest playing RE4R since Leon's combat is upgraded here (except backflips, he doesn't do them anymore )
For better Grace's experince I'd recommend playing RE7 and RE8 before this game because 1st person is also different here (and they're slightly connected to RE9)
