Solving "Make character list" and "endless loading screen" bugs!

Dear Others,
while a lot of you have been playing the game without major interruptions and seemingly enjoying Otherland, providing valuable feedback to our forums, we are aware that there is still some technical problems preventing some of you to play.

During yesterday night we did a lot of investigation regarding several bugs:
1. Being stuck at “Make character list”
2. Client crashes when entering the “Metamorph” store
3. Endless loading screen when entering e.g. LambdaMall after login

We discovered a couple of issues and most of them pointed to the game running in 64 bit mode. We are trying to fix the underlying reason but until then have changed the steam version to always launch in the 32 bit version instead of 64 bit. This change does not require any patch but just to be safe everyone that encountered these bugs should shut down the game, restart steam and try to launch it again.

As I mentioned before – this is not a 100% sure fix and should be considered as a test. So, if you had these bugs before please relaunch steam and the game, check if the bug is still there. Regardless of the outcome we really need to hear from you about it so if you do test it please let us in this thread how it went.

Hi, I sent my dxdiag off, I also re-downloaded the game and also tried deleting the folder you wanted. still have the character list bug.

Hello!

Another quick test that could lead us closer to the solution - if you have a firewall set up please disable it for a moment and try logging into Otherland. Please let us know if the issue continues to appear when the firewall is off.

redownloading the game doesnt seem to have done anything...

k tried disabling my firewall. Also tried deleting that otherland folder in my docouments with the firewall disabled and still the same

I am really sorry that it didn't help.

We got a couple of reports about this bug with quite detailed step by step explanations on how some of the users got to this point.

It seems that everyone got stuck at the endless loading screen and had the client crash or killed it themselves. After that they couldn't log back in and got stuck at the "Make character list".

Is that the case for everyone?

Yes that sounds about right, was able to make a character, got stuck in a endless loading screen, that ended up crashing, then had the endless make character list bug ever since

I am having the same issue.
Tried two different characters

- do you play on EU or US server?: US

I was getting the servers down issue for about 30 minutes...then I left and came back 20 minutes later.
I was able to get to tutorial area but then the game froze
on pressing the portal hand to leave the character modification area. Now I cannot get in. Every time it generates character list I get kicked out.
I am going to try again one time after posting this review and one time tomorrow. Then I will simply ask for a refund of the game. I can't sink too many minutes into this or it will invalidate the refund possibility.
Subscribing to convo, checking tomorrow for update.

I disabled steam overlay. No idea if it was coincidental but this allowed me to log in.

Got past the tutorial. Now just in endless loading screens. I can deal with that. At least it's progress. Can't wait to scream energize like a red shirt with the runs.

Still can't get in on US Server . EU server is working-ish. I can at least log into the tutorial. Sellars stops responding at the golden throne foyer. Haven't tried Asia.
Looked at the bug forums for the last two years to find a fix. Seems like the same problems in 2014 as well...
On to day three of not being able to play this game. About 4 hours of playtime listed. About 50 minutes of actual playtime - the rest attempting to log in. I got to the Golden Throne three times in the tutorial, even saw the transition cut scene one and a half times.

Made a new character. I don't know how many I have made at this time. Actually logged in with it, got passed golden throne and met the tutorial gang. On my way to the last part of the get-together, as I am walking towards the now assembled group in the swamp, I decide to turn around and kill a shader. I am suddenly unable to move Attack buttons make crappy velcro sounds. There are no other responses. I can rotate my view. I give it a few minutes.
I log out. Log out of steam. I start up steam again and try to log in again. Endless Loading.
Wonder if there are name restrictions on the character creation. I found out I can add offensive words when making characters. I'm sure that won't come back to bite me.
On to day 4 of being unable to play this game.
Day 4: Able to play this game! Made it all the way to 5isle before encountered insurmountable issues.
Tried to abondon the find the villagers, kill the monkey men quest. Couldn't abandon and wouldn't activate. Much better today!

Got to the island part in the beginning just after the mall. I am now getting stuck at the creating character screen.

Not fixed on my end. Made several new characters.. all get stuck on loading screen right after defeating tutorial boss throne, (loading into limbo) ironic that im sstuck in loading on limbo.. hehe... anyway Ive not had any positive experience from thsi game at all since getting it and downloading on the 10th.. Maybe its because its EA I hope so, because it looked cool but as of now Im very disappointed and quite literally feel like it was a waste of money.. Sorry guys..
