Yeah, it looks like a lot of the reviews are low effort. There's a bunch of new steam accounts just spamming some non-english language with the same words over and over again.

Are you really surprised based on how they do business?

Dear all,
we know this is a serious issue and we are looking into it. To be clear: Drago did not buy any reviews. We did give keys to a bunch of people as part of sweepstakes or promotions including partners, testers, friends (as is common in the industry)... we are investigating this and will have questionable reviews (about a dozen as we can see) removed.
However, I also still like to point out that we got many negative reviews in a similar manner, that is from accounts with limited playtime and no other reviews.

oh good i got here just in time for full on damage controle mode. yay!
The article is written in bad taste.

1. If the grass is greener than go eat it, don't stand around and criticize my grass. #timewaste

2. Raining on people's parades is not the most admirable hobby in life, except to those who have no life. #getalife

3. The author ridicules Drago as being sneakily persuasive by supposedly manipulated their ratings, yet the author himself is sneakily persuasive by not giving both sides of the story #hypocrite

Also, steam needs to change the requirement for time played before a review can be posted.
In all fairness....both positive and negative reviews were posted with very little playtime.

How does the dev respond to accusations of paid for reviews?
http://mmos.com/editorials/otherland-has-hundreds-of-fake-paid-reviews-on-steam

Basically, it's had a massive turn around and a huge number of reviews with 0.0 hours played (meaning less than 3 minutes)
This post is a duplicate post. Question has already been answered here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/376310/discussions/0/490124466472615971/

1. You don't eat the greener grass, you admire it. Your grass can't be critisized if there is no grass to begin with. #L2plant #Metaphors

2. His hobby is probably playing games. His job however, is to write articles on things related to his hobby. What you're doing is complaining about his opinions as if it's going to justify the means of your argument. #TakeYourOwnAdvice

3. The authors opinions show a valid theoretical observation that these 3 to 0 hour reviews are very similar in writting, punctuation, and grammar. And they are in depth and detailed as if it were coming from a developers point of view, and not a gamers. Could this really be paid developers reviews? Or is it actually legitimate?.. Yes, we want both sides of the story, but thats where the problem lies.

You see these reviews aren't from actual veteran steam accounts, thus theres a high chance we won't get any further feedback from those accounts if they were actually active. That leads us to believe in the one physiological conclusion. There is no 2 sides to a story if the other half is no longer present.

But here's the best part. These reviews, no matter how positive they get, wont do the game justice. It's a wrap. I gave them a chance. That's my opinioin. #DealWithIt.

1. all a matter of opinion. My opinion doesn't need your opinion to be validated.
2. I admit I'm unedcuated in the article's author being paid. I generally don't go on sites and read others opinions, I take the time to form my own.....what a concept *smh
3. It is not valid by any forms of logical aspect as it doesn't evaluate both sides. If it was fair, it would have asked the devs or presented alternative opinions. I could site the logical fallacy but not sure I care that much.
4. Do you see that the reviews were unfair for both sides? Or did every single negative review have a significant amount of time played and a logical articulated unbiased argument for the rating?

In addition, if you think the game sucks and will fail, why bother to grab a hammer and try to pound it into the ground? Let time pass then come back and say "I told you so" if you all so desperately need that to support your own self-esteem issues. ROFL

There are many games that suck, I could spend all day giving bad reviews and posting on their forums trying to convince people to quit or on other sites doing the same.....or I could do what is logical and pursue whatever game floats my boat. Not everything is for everyone. Also, this game has some cult following, and as we know, cult followings don't follow normal game logic, they already have that loyalty and commitment because they enjoy the "cult." or is there another game based off of Tad Williams books that is better than this that I could be playing? Ok then.

I'm here because I enjoy this game and have interest in this game's forums. Why everyone else is here I am not sure, I know that if I did not enjoy this game, I personally could find something better to do with time than hang out on a game I don't like's forums. It's sad that other's struggle with that. #pity

Constructive criticism is another concept. Every action has motivation. What's the motivation behind some people's actions I don't quite understand, what is the result in hopes? Want Drago to say "OMG you are right, we F***ed up, let's quit being devs and cancel this game because some random ppl that don't matter have objections" or what exactly is the purpose here?

Well, there are two sides: The one of the journalist that posted the article before even asking our statement (he still hasn't and just rejected my previous post). And our side. As mentioned we don't know where these accounts come from, they are not from us nor were they "paid" by us. As I mentioned before.

I agree some accounts look suspicious. So far a dozen out of >300. But pls also take into account that a) many bad reviews look the same way (bad English, same games that are available for free, close to zero play time) and b) could someone actually want to put us into bad light... because yes, it is very obvious that these reviews are not based on quality playing time and even dumb people like us would know that.

As mentioned before we are investigating. In the meantime I hope you are still enjoying our game. Many people do as you could see from reviews with dozens of hours played.
