Arcade story?
I have never played Guilty Gear before and yet I went ahead and bought Guilty Gear xrd without knowing the story behind any characters.
Since it is advised that I should play Arcade before the Story mode, my concern now is that I don't really understand anything that is happening in the cutscenes of Arcade. Is it because the story mode will more or less clear everything up or because I simply lack the character story from past installments?

Right now have only played through arcade with Sol, ky and millia.

Read the database and library in-game, the timeline and character details are described there. Story is not as detailed as in Blazblue series

Well maybe you'll enjoy the story better if you read what what happens in the previous chapters.

So now I read that my library only unlocks after doing story mode.
That is kind of counterintuitive if I want to learn more about the characters before jumping into story mode.

Do I just read up on some other sites like wiki ?
What do you guys suggest?

I just finished the story mode. Having only played through the arcade mode with 1 character at that point, I can safely say that I enjoyed the story very much even without the bits that arcade mode offered.

Arcade mode fleshes out some minor bits (I'm playing through it now with everyone), but it's nothing drastically important. I personally think playing through Sol's arcade mode is good enough.

Also, I think this story is WELL beyond anything Blazblue has ever had...I absolutely loved it.

Oh, right, suppose I should mention this was also my first Guilty Gear experience, and IMO it blows Blazblue out of the water, everything about this game is wonderful!

First off, let me tell you that Guilty Gear's story is insanely convoluted, almost nonsensical at times. Don't feel bad if you don't understand much of Xrd's story mode.

If you ever get confused, feel free to watch the story modes of previous games on Youtube. They may help give you context.
