GUILTY GEAR Xrd -SIGN-

GUILTY GEAR Xrd -SIGN-

Why is Guilty Gear Xrd so graphic intensive and why won't it work on my i5 4460 quadcore
Guilty Gear Xrd has cheap graphics I mean it's not even 3D but cheap 2D in comic graphics. It's not like MK X or Doom 4 graphics and the game is old but why is it that I'm not able to run it smoothly on my i5 quadcore even though I have an Intel graphics card. I was able to run Mortal Kombat X and Wolfenstein New Order on my PC with an Intel graphics card so I shouldn't have a problem running this crap game with its cheap 2D comical graphics.

Intel IGPs are actually not really powerful, and this game is using the Unreal Engine 3, which can be GPU-intensive at times. And make no mistake, this game *is* 3D. But the good news is, it's highly tweakable, and you should be able to run it by lowering the settings (including some settings of the engine itself).

It is 3D, it's just made to look 2D

Crap game with "cheap" 2D comical Graphics that has:
  • Composite Dynamic Lights
  • Dynamic Decals
  • Shadowing Reflection
  • Directional Lightmaps
  • High Quality Materials
  • LightShafts
  • Filtered Distortions
  • Volumetric Fogs
  • Subsurface Scattering
  • Separate Translucency
  • Postprocess MLAA
  • Temporal AA and many more!
Yes it uses some 2d sprites for some animations and effects but XRD using the unreal engine is far more complex in the graphics department than Unity Engine Games with the most basic 3D or old OpenGL games.

Check this guide for graphical optimization maybe with all possible custom graphical downgrades you may be even be able to run the game, and please make sure to read and verify that your computer meets the system requirements for any game you buy in the future. Have a good day sir.

EDIT: To solve your problem I recomend using a powerful grpahics card for your computer and install it's latests drivers after you are done. Some persons have trouble making sure that the game uses the graphics card and not the processor's mini graphics card, but I dont know how to solve that rare problem.

Also you can try in the game's options to set up performance priority and dinamic lights off, that'll help your framerate.

@Femail Mauler: GGXrd has temporal AA? I don't remember seeing the option anywhere... Actually the few games I've played that had TXAA (iirc that's how it's abbreviated) were Unreal Engine 4 games...

Xrd is all big models, shadows, lighting effects, and intensive, colorful backgrounds. It's not a light game, and it's not in 2D. The game's in full 3D, but one of the many design decisions was that in order to make a 'worthy' successor to GG, it had to be GG, and GG is 2D, anime, metal, and full of flair, color, and flashy effects.

They settled on a sort of cell-shaded look, where they specifically and slowly moved over all the characters as they were, in order to erase all traces of them now being 3D. Ky has a ponytail because the Trunks look would create shadows that breaks the illusion. When Sol does anything, his fists, sword, even face get distored, superdeformed, stretched, and displaced so your eyes never catch on that this isn't in 2D.

The big reveal is always when you land your first proper dust, and you see it all.

The version of unreal they're running has engine limits that make all the non-iris intel integrated produce strange effects. For instance, on the HD 4000, crouching with Millia reliably blanks out the background, leaving only the characters. There ain't nothing they can do, and unreal 3 is no longer supported, as it's end of life and abandoned by everybody who didn't get a sweet end of life full source code deal for bargain prices - which is what ARC did.

Lol, clearly OP hasn't seen how Street Fighter V runs. This game actually runs very well for a UE3 game. Get a dedicated graphic card and you'll see a massive performance boost.

I guess this is more of a win for the Guilty Gear team, as some people ACTUALLY believe its 2D animation. Its not, its all shaders. Every model is 100% bonified 3D. If you seen actual gameplay you would know that the camera spins around an opponent when they lose or the camera angle changes during intro scenes and using DUST mechanic.

But yeah there are negative reviews saying this "2d game is too hard to run on my potato".

Its technically not even Unreal 3 exactly, its a heavily updated and modified version of Unreal 3 so its built to run on beefier systems like the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Ahhh I see, So this is more or less their own engine now. As its already been modified so much anyway, didnt know about the end of life thing.
