Compatibility question...GG XRD - Revelator with GG XRD - Sign

If I buy GG XRD - Revelator, is it possible to play with my friend who only owned GG XRD - Sign or are they 2 different titles unable to connect (online) ?

Oh and by the way...I don't really get the difference between XRD Rev and Rev 2 ...if there is ?

You can't play people in sign if you have rev.

Rev2 is the updated rev1. So get rev2

You can play between Rev 1 and 2, you both just have to switch to the same version.

Rev 2 adds 2 new characters, numerous extras, new story modes and has a lot of balance changes.
