black screen - can't host server
My game will never load. My comp can handle it but all I ever get is a black screen and the menu sounds.

you have to go to steam and right click on the isle in your menu library list, then go to prefs, then opt in for the Beta and go through that crap and it will load and take care of the black screen, i had to troubleshoot this myself. trust me...

I found the solution and it works. Do not run the game from steam menu. Instead go to the game folder C->Program Files->Steam->steamapps->common->The Isle and here in this folder is TheIsle app. Run it. You will get a warning message saying your game is not fully connected with steam. Press ignore and now you can host your game.

This method doesn't work for me, the whole app crashes

In case you didn't know

For the actual Beta of the game in active development with a ton of servers

Right click The Isle in steam > properties > beta > select Evrima

Note: If you want the solo player experience, just find a server with no one or few on, you will feel quite alone on the huge map

We wanna play with bots though, on a private server, and in Evrima I cannot host a server though?

In Evrima just jumping into an empty community server (Public servers are near always full at peak times) will give you that single player vibe as the map is big
