Text Block
Hi fellow dino's. I have a problem I can't seem to figure out. It's most likely a problem I've created myself, but I'll post it here in the Bugs section as it seems like the right place to ask.

After last nights update (19.01 to 20.01) my chat was working fine, but now I can't seem to join groups and it's like nobody is seeing what I'm writing. So, I can write, but nobody sees it. At the upper left corner it appears a text that has'nt been there before "Text block" - so it seems my texting has been, yup, blocked. I highly doubt it's been blocked because of profanity and such, as I've only used it for tips as I'm new to the game.

I'm running the game on my Lenovo 700 laptop. It may as I've said before be something I've pressed in the desperation of trying to flykick a t rex while running, I honestly don't know.

I appriciate the help, thanks!

Not just you. It's likely just a bug.

Text block means you've pressed insert, the key for the debug menu, just press insert on your keyboard again. Also check that you're not talking in Global, if you're on official servers global is disabled.

Thanks, I tried pushing insert, but that's the character menu, so I switched the debug menu to another button, but still the problem is there. Thanks for the tip though! :) I'm talking locally btw :)

If nobody responds to your text in-game it's most likely people just replying to it, as if you can send the text then everyone of the same species (provided you're carnivore) can see it in proximity. As for the text block, if it's still there try right clicking The Isle in your Steam library > left click reset game settings.

Thank you for your answer.

I used to be a part of an T-rex group who I always hung with in-game, so when they also stopped responding and wildly wrote my name as to why I did not answer, I knew they weren't blindly ignoring me.

Per your answer I've reset game settings, three times, and the "text block" is still visible in the top left corner. So saddly, it didn't work.

This problem startet as I said after an update, but I'm open to beeing the fault myself, so I'm not blindly blaming the update.

When did this happen for you? I'm sorry on your behalf, but that may be evidence of a bug, and not something I did wrong. Maybe..

Out of curiosity.. Try rebinding the debug hud to another key then pressing it.

I've done that earlier, but I'm optimistic, so I tried again. Unfortunatly nothing new happened. I tried 14 different new keys to bind. There are two commands that occupy the "H" key where my DebugHub was attached. So I switched the "Rest" ability to something different as well, just because it couldn't hurt. But alas, nothing has worked yet.

Honestly, in many other online games this wouldn't be a problem for me personaly, but I try to forge alliances with other herbivores and carnivores to live longer, so without the abilty to type with others this game is, right now, kinda unplayable for me. I really hope this problem gets fixed, so I can go back and acctually play this game the way I loved before this problem occured.

Some people mentioned that pressing your console key fixes this, which is the ¬ button above your tab key. Try that. Also reset your game settings > right click the isle in the steam library > left click reset game settings.

Still no luck for me I'm afraid. Done what you said, also pressed every key on my keyboard w/ and without capslock, shift and well, every combination I could think of. I also configuered every button from it standard config to a new button, still no luck. Also joined secure, non secure, modded, non modded, survival, sandbox and progression servers, no luck.

Re-installing the game, yet again, hoping something magical might happen this time around. Thanks for the help and attention to my and obiously many others problem. Just shout out if it's anything else I should try.

If you're going to reinstall the game I'd suggest deleting The Isle folder from your Steam directory before reinstalling, as to ensure any corrupted content is also removed, as some things linger after a normal uninstallation.

So I reinstalled the game, no difference. So I reinstalled again per your instruction, and deleted everything even remotly associated with "The Isle" The result was unfortunatly the same, still getting the "Text Block"
