How to play as a Galli
So I’m pretty new to the game and trying out Galli since I prefer running away in a flight vs fight scenario. And I just love the ability to get to places quickly when exploring.

Just wanted to learn how to be a better Galli so I have a few questions..

1. Being in a herd at night. I usually just stick to the herd(usually around water) but I have seen other Gallis (more experienced?) just scouting the perimeters even attacking certain dinos at night while others hide in bushes some distance away.
Is that the safer way to play? I tried watching and learning while a group of Gallis were going up against some utahs but one bite was enough to take me out of the action with the bleed. So how does one do it?

2. Being in a herd in the day. Sometimes I see the herd asking us to scout around. Is that what a Gallis role is? And by scouting, we just run around near the herd looking for carnis? Generally I see Gallis tend to run around by themselves out of view but near the herd while I usually tend to stick to the herd since I’m not that great with the map yet and don’t want to risk losing track.

3. How to attack/harass carnis. I see some Gallis able to use themselves to distract carnis to save herd mates by kicking them in the butt and being annoying. Not sure how is the best way to do it as I’m pretty sure that leads to death for me if I were to learn by actually using a carni to practice on. Is there a good way to do so, or do I just have to keep trying till I master it?

4. This is less of a Galli related question than a general one. Does AI only spawn with carnis near or does herbs spawn them too? Just want to confirm so I know whether an AI = carnis nearby.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about herding, since I don't often play on popular servers, but it depends on who you're herding with and what their playstyle is like. Gallies are fast and so ideal scouts, just as dryos are, and due to their small size can hide easily.

Gallies are great dinos to mess with carnis with, because their turn radius is the best in the game. This means you can out-turn any carni, and get onto their tail with ease (just look out for them stopping to alt-turn). I think the best way to practice would be to go onto a sandbox deathmatch server, and test out juking the carnis on there for some practice.

AI will only spawn if there is a carnivore at <86% hunger in the area, so AI either means there's a carni nearby, or it's left over from a past carni; best way to check is to kill it and see if more spawn.

Really great advice. Have been getting better at using it although i still prefer to give the carnis a wide space rather than tango with them. Will try out the sandbox idea :D Thanks!

with your herd related questions, i would say just don't go into a herd at all. a galli that's constantly on guard and never lets it down is the most effective survivalist in the game. they can outduke and outstam carnos and utahs and overpower herras and austros. a herd will draw attention to yourself, you do not want that. hide out and stay away from populated areas, drink from low-traffic lakes and you could easily survive for well over an IRL month. and yeah, you can harrass carnis, it's fun, but it lowers your chance of survival. as for your last question, AI will not spawn everywhere [it doesn't spawn in places like swamp on thenyaw for example], but it will only spawn if a carni is in the region. it's not a surefire indicator, but if you see any, watch out, or run, or hide. there either is a carnivore in the area or there was recently.
