Herrera Sucks?
Been playing it loads as i really like the climbing and resting on branches, sadly that seems to be the highlight of my herra gameplay. every time i manage to find a group we just sit on trees all day till dilos come camp us and decimate half the pack.

How does one find success with Herra? solo?

You either sit in a spot camping it like a tiny Deino with a somewhat selective taste in targets(small ones) or you play it more like a Ptera and be the observer, attach yourself to some people and follow them around.

A lot of people think its fun to have someone jumping in the tress, glowing and making burping sounds every now and then. Especially if you act as a warning system, being up in the trees gives you a lot of advantages in seeing everything in the area trying to be sneaky... or just some Carno/Cera walking in the direction but covered by bushes.

My advice though is to not be like the 99% of Herreras, do not spawn in the SE Plains and sit around the pond. If you are hunting the surprise ambush is your main attack and that is already gone in SE Plains, everyone expects a Herrera to fly out of a tree there. In fact they are probably baiting you for a free meal.

The other advice is to also not be like the 99% of Herreras, do not stare yourself blind on the high jumps, supposedly they do more damage but stunning yourself and awkwardly standing next to your target for like 2 seconds kinda loses you a big part of the surprise ambush. Boom damage but you also gave them time to recover and get ready for what to do when both of you can move.

A less crazy jump still staggers the target but not you, does good damage and lets you machinegun-bite a few times before either running away or committing a bit more to the kill.

You're thematically Iquanas, climb into trees to run away, jump off branches, jump into water to avoid being hit.

But as Carnivore, you're small game hunter and baby snatcher.

maybe you should hunt more actively....there are goats and frogs so you can get them to eat .

if you stay at 1 place ...better to do it at a place where many juvies spawn....you can jump them and kill them mostly in 1 hit

100% how i play Herrera, great explanation on how to use the dino. I usually play this or the Ptera(when there are schooling fish spawns) and just either observe the carnage at north east, or follow around some dino packs and se where their adventure leads too. There are good and bad with this game but playing as the Herrera is my chill out after being pissed off after a hacker kills your adult Carno/Cera/Deino with a baby dino lol. But yeah, like Botji said, just hunt small animals like Boar if you want the stamina boosts(that's what i get) or baby and small dinos. Remember though, if you hunt player dinos make sure to bite corpse and get out organs for the different diets. The organs fill up the diets fast, that way if you don't have the correct food around you can eat the organs and then chow down on crap meat(only if not rotten) . Good luck!

baby deino makes sense. thats the part i was struggling with, could never catch anything due to stam and positioning. by the time i would sneak and climb i would use up half the stamina, will try less stalking and more area of control.

I think my experience has been poor due to grouping at NE plains. camp island is not fun. I think ill check out wetlands. and find more suprising choke points, but knowing the map and spawn would be helpful. Have enjoyed my solo travels
