The Isle

Should mud pools be defensible location?
While around it would clearly be a defensible place.

But what if you're a bleeder type dino and your prey stands on mud pool.
Should it be defensible when the defender stands in the mud?

I wonder if said mud pools should behave abit like quicksand or boghole, so that you use them to wallow and get out or else risk getting bogged.

you do sink in the mud, just so slow nobody seems to notice it. not sure if you can sink low enough to drown anyway but i love the idea of that being possible at a fast rate

Something worth noting is the Stamina issue that's posed with bleeding VS being unable to move in mud if you lack the stamina to do so. It's a counter already in the game for the very reason anyone would actively seek out a mudpool.

What stamina? Carnos can use mud pools to negate Utahs abilities, Utahs risk getting stuck in mud and chomped dead by Carnos if they try to attack.
Stegos too can use mud pools too, to trap any Utahs and Carnos that dare to attack it.
Now thinking what will happen when other dinos are released...

You can't run in a mudpool. So both prey and preditor can get stuck in that scenerio. There aren't a lot of mudpools in game and wallowing requires an animation be played. So just standing in it doesn't stop your bleed. They could have all attacks in mud be less damage due to awkwardness or something but if you're a bleeder just keep bleeding them when they try to do an animation to stop it.

This is all situational

- The map is huge and mud pools are very spread out
- You don't have to fight anyone near a mud pool if its an issue, move away
- The need to eat and drink can force anyone from a mud pool if combatants are patient

The stamina issue I mentioned is the balancer for using mudpools. The lower your blood the less stamina you have. If you enter a mud pool without stamina you're not allowed to move until you recover enough stamina to do so, leaving you a sitting duck not even able to turn around. Combine this with the diet that increases or decreases stamina gain and the mud pool may as well be a tomb.
