fishing as ptera is so hard for me

i keep falling in the water all the time ever single time, after hours and hours of playing as ptera and respawning everywhere around the map i have never caught a single damn fish

Use space to hold your altitude. Also don't force the bird down to the water for now, just let the bird slowly glide lower at it's own pace while holding down right mouse button.

Also make sure you are doing tight circles over the ripples the fish make in the water as these are the only places you can catch fish. And be patient, how long it takes to catch a fish is random, you may catch a fish the instant you put your break into the water, or it could take as long as 30 second or more.

It use to be the same for me. after a little bit of practice with how flying works it will get easier. Also If you press V to make the camera go to the side of you and zoom with the mouse wheel to a comfortable distance it makes it easier to see how close you are to the water. That helped me out a lot.

Two methods for fishing: 1) You can use right click while hovering over water. Make sure you hit space every few seconds or so, to keep from falling into the water. I would also recommend using Z to slow down (just a little bit, slow down too much and you'll fall out of the sky) before attempting to hover over the water. 2) Left click while above a ripple, to attack and catch fish. Another tip: When you are young, hit G to drop the fish and hold E to eat it. If you shallow it whole, you risk being sick and throwing up. Your food bar will be drained and you'll feel silly.

Fishing is easy. Just keep spam calling around a Dieno until they give you a fish to shut you up.

I suggest scavenging until adulthood. Adults are far easier to learn how to fish with. A good practice spot is right where the currently accessible river system lets out into the sea (stay in that last bit of river but use the sea as a landmark). Deinos usually don't bother going all the way down there so you can crash over and over without somebody trying to eat you. Z is the airbrake on a keyboard unless you remapped it and you're going to want to use it because it's easier if you are flying slowly. As someone above said don't dive right to the surface of the water. Avoid diving as much as possible when you are close and let the animal drift down naturally after you've reached a certain closeness. Look for ripples. You'll want to skim over those multiple times while holding down...I think it's right mouse button. I do it so automatically I forget which one it is. It's one of them. The one that makes you open your beak when you're really close. Tap the space bar occasionally to keep from going under as you skim back and forth over the ripple spot. Don't worry about keeping your beak under the water. As long as the beak is open, it will register as an attempt. Don't release the mouse button unless prompted or you're pausing your attempt to reorient yourself. You don't click to catch the fish. You let go of the held button.
