Herbivores and Omnivores have ample food, just learn the game mechanics and your gold
As for Carnivores
There is AI, I record my sessions, and the AI indeed do spawn, but sparingly, and even if near in the jungle you wont see them, you have to listen out, but if its raining then good luck, AI will also run from you even if you are some distance away and you would never know, you can sneak up to AI if your crouching and quite, but running in spooks them, in short they are there, but very hard to catch
The game is a hardcore survival rougelike, you will die by design, and your body is food for others, so expect hardship
There are about 7000 people playing as I write this, many do find food and survive, many just take on the challenge until they die, they don't post in forums, people that tend to post most are ones with a complaint, so you will see those most commonly, this is in all aspects of life, people that are happy/content don't tend to talk about it much, but if we have a bad experience we tell everyone, and as humans we tend to listen to others bad experiences so we can avoid them, it's an evolutionary thing for survival, and part of our DNA/nature
If you actually want to play the game, being a Carnivore is the 'hard' mode of the game, if you are just starting out, learn the map and basics by playing as a Herbivore or Omnivore like Gallimimus, you wont starve at least, but get to experience much of the game, its a good intro actually, and will better prepare you for playing as a Carnivore
Saying all this, in my opinion AI needs a lot more work for many reasons that I cant be bothered to list, the game is in development

You are in 'Legacy', the old discontinued version of the game, when mentioning The Isle most now assume your talking about 'Evrima' the current version of the game
For official Evrima servers
Right click the Isle in Steam > Properties > Betas > Select Evrima public
Put a couple hours into Evirma and so far have starved to death 3 times, haha. Have yet to find any food, or any other players. On official US east, the the 120 players.
watch this it will help

If you are in a remote area where NPCs like fish was spawning the previous day while the server population was low you might not see any spawns the next day when the population is high because the NPC limit is reached and all available spawns are used up in other regions.
If you can't leave the remote area in time your only option is to log out and wait until the server population is low again and the previously spawned NPCs have despawned. After that the NPCs will basically spawn in immediately again.
Conserve stamina whenever you can. Sniffing really helps. Ptera can fish as well by skimming the water while flying over fish pools and holding right click, it's a great source of food. Also, a reminder that you can use flight momentum to your advantage, going down speeds you up(without stamina usage) and going up slows you down with significant stamina usage.
