For solo players who don't come into the game with a pre-organized group of friends, being able to ask for nesting is a good way to find a group of people to enjoy the game with, you've found your species, and given that you're their egg, they're less likely to instantly try to kill you. You have a better chance, starting off with some non-cannibal allies.
I agree that I don't want it to be a dinosaur VRchat. I'm here for the combat, the visceral intensity of surviving an encounter, but that also includes the lifecycle of a dinosaur. Not everything is adrenaline 24/7. We as people are communal, players will want a herd or pack, people to try to survive together with. There's nothing wrong with that.
To me, Evrima feels distinctly empty, quiet, and boring.
There are multiple reasons -- first and foremost is the lack of drinkable water in other more inland locations, so people just congregate near the central rivers, because carnivores also need food, so stay in the place that has both in a short distance. That needs to be addressed so that herbivores can wander further out, which means carnivores can find food further out (including better AI), and fill the entire map with life.
But as you spread out the population, it's also tougher to find where players are, much less any of your own kind. And before somebody salty is like "nesting is the easy way out, you need to listen and try to find them on your own!" Yes, well, if you go log into a Legacy server... people still do both on the regular, plenty. It's not all just nesting.
(And on a minor side-topic, the vocalizations in Evrima are somehow tougher to pinpoint.)
Nesting feels more like a natural part of the lifecycle, it keeps your herd/pack/group alive and slowly replenishing in event of death. It lessens the futility of, well, I just died alone and lost everything, now I get to go sit in a bush alone for more hours. And turns that snoozefest into something a little more entertaining. Which is why we are here... to enjoy a game.
And yet also realistic... if a carnivore or scavenger (Oviraptor gameplay someday?) finds a nest and stumbles upon some eggs or young to devour, who may try to scramble away to survive.
To me, that's more content and engaging activity. It's not something to scoff at, and not just chat.
can't even get a refund.
i'm sick of this.
i don't even feel like complaining (in a non-childish manner) anymore.
