I have seen it thrown around that scenting stuff and tracking people is less effective in rain but tbh I have not really noticed much of a difference so idk if it really does or not.
And well if I try to keep it simple the scent line is your compass and will show icons for things you are smelling, large icons are closer to you and small icons are further away.
To use the line as a compass all you need to know is that North is the direction where the scent line points up like so: ~~~^~~~ and South is where it points down: ~~~v~~~
West and East do not have any really obvious markers but if you look really carefully its like a red/pink smudge halfway between N and S which is W and E depending on if you are looking left or right N or S etc.
